The Greatest Prize of All

Summer rapidly approaches.  With this season come picnics, grill-outs, bonfires, parties and concession stands (at fairs or baseball games).  It is all about food.  Or is it?

Breaking free from Anorexia has been a slow process.  I must find peaceful mindset about food.  I must eat to nourish my body, but food must not be my main focus.  The environments above provide much more than food.  Friendly faces, good conversations and memories exist in all these scenarios.  Anxiety about food only steals my joy and I miss the opportunity to grow closer with loved ones.

Breaking free from Anorexia not only involves the food aspect, but also the emotional.  Anytime a chaotic environment appears, a struggles in relationship occur or things just don't go as I planned, my mind becomes overwhelmed.  When in bondage, I ran to Anorexia and found comfort through excessive exercise or restricting my calorie intake.  I now run to Him.  His Truths nourish my spirit.  As I feed my spirit, He takes care of the minor details (such as food intake and anxiety).

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."  (1 Corinthians 9:24-25) 

“Submit to God and be at peace with him;
   in this way prosperity will come to you.
Accept instruction from his mouth
   and lay up his words in your heart.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored:. . ."
(Job 22:21-23)

"But I will restore you to health
   and heal your wounds,’
            declares the LORD,. . ." (Jeremiah 30:17)

I am discovering trigger situations and each time I find that satan lurks around, ready to consume my mind with his lies.  I quickly combat those lies with Truth.  God continues to restore my health and builds my spirit so I may work for Him.  The adjustment from living with Anorexia to living in a healthy body creates various emotions.  When these emotions flood my mind, I reach for Him.  I cannot do this on my own.  I am relieved to know God carries me in His hands.

The same applies to those struggling with overeating, smoking, alcohol use, etc.  The race to victory requires training.  Training comes through studying His Truth.  Once we know His Truth and apply it to our lives, the bondage to ________ will vanish.  He sets us free and provides a prize of eternal life spent with Him.  This is the greatest prize of all!

Prepare yourselves for any trigger situation so as to not believe the lies satan will feed you.  I ask all who read this to pray for me as I learn where to find strength each time satan lies to me so I may not believe him.  I will also pray for all of you who read this to be aware of your triggers so as to find healing inside and not fall victim to bondage.  Remember if you do fall, His mercies are new every morning.  Pick yourself up and find forgiveness in Him and learn from the situation.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for the love You show me each day.  As summer approaches, so many triggers exist for me to fall.  Hold me in Your hands and guide me so I may build my armor of protection from Your Truths.  I love You.

Obey and Trust

My in-laws purchased a pool this year.  My son eagerly waited for the day he could jump in.  Well, yesterday presented opportunity for this to occur.  The minute his eyes opened, we began hearing, "Can we go to the pool now?"  Our response remained the same each time, "It is too early in the day and the pool is not ready yet."  He waited in great anticipation. 

We arrived and the anticipation shifted to fear.  He feared entering the pool without a life jacket, which up to now he wore one in any kind of water.  The time had arrived for him to learn to swim and trust us.  He could touch the bottom with tip-toes, but still felt anxious.  It took half an hour for my seven year old to trust his father and take that first step into the pool without any floats.  By the end of the day, he was jumping in all alone with us on the side watching. 

"Love the LORD, all his faithful people!
   The LORD preserves those who are true to him,
   but the proud he pays back in full.
Be strong and take heart,
   all you who hope in the LORD." (Psalm 31:23-24)

"I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
   and in his word I put my hope." (Psalm 130:5)

Just as you'll never understand
      the mystery of life forming in a pregnant woman,
   So you'll never understand
      the mystery at work in all that God does. 
Go to work in the morning
      and stick to it until evening without watching the clock.
  You never know from moment to moment
      how your work will turn out in the end.
(Ecclesiastes 11:4-6) The Message

God promises an eternal life full of joy beyond our imagination.  Jesus sits and prepares a place for us in Heaven.  We must wait patiently for the glorious day of His return or we are called home.  Just as my son had to wait for the right time to go swimming, we must wait for His right time.  Moving forward in our own timing creates destruction and disappointment.  My son could have went ahead to swim before it was time and his experience would have been cold, miserable and without the protection of his father.

We must remember our Father in Heaven has our best interest in mind and will protect us as we obey Him.  Our steps must be made in faith, knowing He holds the whole picture in His hands.  When He responds, "I am not ready for you to go there or do that yet," we must say, "I trust You and will wait for Your timing." 

As our travel continues with Him, fear may consume our minds.  He will never ask us to do more than we can handle.  Our heartache may be avoided and anxiety pushed aside if we obey at His first command.  Have faith that He will not allow you to fall.


God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for all the blessing provided.  May I take each step in faith, holding Your hand.  I love You.

Simple Pleasures

Last night consisted of dinner on the deck, followed by a bonfire.  We bought marshmallows and graham crackers to create yummy snacks over the fire.  We waited for the sun to set somewhat before beginning the fire.  While waiting, my son played baseball with his daddy and my daughter ran around the yard enjoying the beautiful night. 

When the fire began, so did the roasting.  My son ran inside to get me something and I told him I would roast a marshmallow for him.  He specifically asked for a soft brown tone to the roast.  I obeyed and sandwiched it between to graham crackers.  He returned, ready to take over and create his treat.  He found it all ready for him and said, "You are the best mommy".  My daughter thanked me for bringing the food outside for roasting.  She enjoyed way too many marshmallows and crackers, but who could say no to that cute little face?! 

Both kids filled with joy over these events.  Little children enjoy the simple pleasures in life.  Their eyes focus on what is good.  Sad to say, the world grabs hold of their hearts, creating a risk for them to lose sight of good.  As parents, we strive to keep them innocent and create a solid Christian foundation.  This provides proper tools needed to stand firm, guard their hearts and stay focused (see Proverbs 4:23-24).

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
(2 Corinthians 4:17-18) 

Though not in human form, God is present daily.  We see Him in all around us through His Creations.  We need not search frantically.  He is present for all to see! 

As I took a walk yesterday, I remembered this fact.  I encountered a small little snake crawling on the road (yes, God created even the creepiest creatures!), a cat ready to pounce a pigeon, pigeons teasing the cat by flying above, dogs running around enjoying the day, the sun shining and friendly smiles from neighbors.  I also ran into a cousin who had been weighing on my heart lately and chatted for just a bit, then prayed for him as he left to go with his friend.  God stays with us always.

The simple pleasures in life can bring enjoyment to us adults as well.  We need only pray to God to change our eyesight so we may see clearly what is good.  Make every thought obedient to Him so as to not get caught in the battles OF this world (see 2 Corinthians 10:3-5).  Peace, joy and laughter will follow as we shift our focus from this world (troubles) to Him (pleasures).  

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for the reminder of what is good.  May I continue to see clearly each day Your Creation which surrounds me.  May I know I am borrowing all in this life from You and I must handle with care and praise.  I love You.

Pessimist to Optimist

Walk into a room, flip a switch and light comes -
     We say, "Ugh, another light bulb went out!"
Turn a knob and water flows -
     We say, "Wow, this is too cold!"
Grab keys; open the door, turn ignition and the car starts -
     We say, "I cannot believe the gas prices!"
Pack bags, book the flight and arrive miles away in a few hours -
     We say, "I hate security procedures!"
Walk into the grocery, grab food and serve dinner within minutes -
     We say, "I am hungry right now!"

I find my attitude to be negative too often.  I must remind myself of the simple pleasures taken for granted.  America provides so much freedom which we overlook.  No longer do we need to burn a candle, wait for the sun to come up or find a flashlight to see in the dark.  No longer do we need to walk miles to gather water, pump a well or limit our usage in the shower.  No longer do we need to walk or ride a bike to our destination.  No longer do we need to pick crops, clean them up or start a fire to fill our stomachs. 

The world continues to progress in creating a convenient life.  Computers work for us, electronics provide entertainment, restaurants cook for us and yet we still find room to complain.  Often boredom comes because electricity went out or the calendar remains blank for one day.

 Really? 

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." (Philipians 4:7-9)

Let us move from pessimist to optimist.  Living in expectation of negative outcomes only steals the confidence found through Jesus Christ.  He promises to bring peace, joy and life to the fullest.  Hear that?  Life to the fullest.  Our glass NEVER appears half empty when the focus is on Him.  No room exists inside us for emptiness or loneliness.  

Why be skeptical?  For Our Creator provides hope for a great future, daily needs and love along the way.  The mere fact you are reading this means you can see, touch, comprehend, move and function in life.  God brings your every breath so you may go and be His hands and feet.  Go and be an optimist so as to open the eyes of all the pessimists.  Practice in the dark what you learned in the light so as to not remain in dark.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for created this life for me.  You are amazing!  I praise Your work and appreciate the Truths You provide for my daily living.  Without Your Instructions, I am lost.  I love You.

Listen To The Coach

I go about my day keeping the house in order to my best ability.  Staying home part-time allows for no rest.  Some might think mothers get to rest during nap time or can sit and watch their child play throughout the day.  WRONG!  No rest exists as a stay at home mom. 

"I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.  However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace." (Acts 20:23-24)

Guess what, one person need not do it all!  Family means more than just occupying the same home together.  Families need to work together and become the team God created.  His hands brought every family together for He knew these individuals were the perfect match for His plan.  If we fail to work together, we fail to fulfill His plan. 

Think about a basketball team.  If one person keeps the ball, allowing the entire defense to come upon them, a goal will never be made.  If each player touches the ball and passes to the one who is open at the time, then the defense cannot focus and a goal can be made.  Just so, a family must work together to keep the home functioning.  No one should sit the bench, or couch, whichever you may choose to envision!  Pass the workload to another teammate who stands ready.  If one person feels the need to do all the work, the defense (satan) will demolish and destroy any chance of completing a task.

Life may bring some hard times to a family, but keep God as the center and don't lose focus.  He will provide the strength, comfort and words needed to make it through anything if only you lean on Him.  As a family works together, love grows and joy follows. 

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8)

I found out that my family cannot read my mind.  Yeah, go figure!  So, if something needs to be done, if I need rescued, all I need do is ASK.  We created a chore chart in our house and began it yesterday.  It worked out great for supper time.  Teamwork brought us to a family meal.  Before I would just sit and stew in my negative thoughts wishing the family would see I needed some help.  Last night, I asked and my husband rescued me by occupying the kids while I finished up supper.  The kids did their part in preparation and clean up, so we had 'family time' afterwards. 

Although God knows our needs before we ask, He still would like to hear from your mouth.  Prayer is powerful.  Your words show genuine feeling.  The one who seeks, finds; the one who asks, receives; and the one who knocks, the door opens.  We must study His Truth so we may know which direction to seek, how to ask and be able to choose the correct door.  God may not answer yes all the time.  Do not lose heart, for He may have bigger plans ahead.  My dear friend told me, "God answers prayers in three ways; yes, not yet, or I have something better."

Keep your head up and know communication is vital for any team.  Our family is our team, with God as the coach.  Listen for each play to be called and then follow through.  The moves He asks for us to take will bring victory over our defense, satan. 

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for bringing my family together and creating the perfect Craig team.  May we continue to keep You as our center every day.  May patience come over me and know my family cannot read my mind.  May I ask with loving words to receive help and work together in any task.  I love You.

Listen to Warnings

Our arrival home from Philadelphia was not the smoothest.  We avoided the storm over the airport by waiting in the air to land once it passed.  The pilot came over the speaker announcing the decision to wait and that the plane still contained 80 minutes worth of gasoline.  Now, I am not certain, but I do not believe gas stations exist in the air.  The storm would pass anywhere between 20-40 minutes and we still were over Muncie, IN.  Not a pretty picture.  Many passengers kept a close watch at the time.

Finally, the airport cleared us to come and land.  The journey to the airport left much to be desired.  One woman became ill and others simply closed their eyes waiting for the wheels to touch ground.  We landed with about 20 minutes left in the tank.

Our journey still consisted of two hours driving from Indianapolis to home.  We ran from the storm, literally.  My father-in-law called and reported that major thunderstorms, able to produce tornadoes, headed right for us.  My husband drove as fast as allowed and the storm lost the race.  We arrived home only to find that more storms brewed west of us and moved quickly our way.  Nothing damaging came of those.

"But may all who seek you
   rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
   “The LORD is great!” (Psalm 70:4)

 "I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
   and in his word I put my hope." (Psalm 130:5)

"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." (Hebrews 2:1)

Our walk with God must include open eyes and open ears.  God speaks to us in various ways so we must be ready to hear each direction.  God knows which storms to avoid.  Sometimes waiting is required; other times running in the opposite direction is the answer.  Since our pilot obeyed warnings from the airport, he escaped a risky landing.  Since we obeyed my father-in-law's instruction to continue forward and not stop, we avoided treacherous storms.  

God uses His instructions to warn against sinful actions.  He presents the consequences and tells of every detail we must follow to avoid those consequences.  It is all written out for us, we need only read and study.  A survey took place to see who reads the Bible - 53% once a month, 26% occasional, 23% rare, 1% did not know.  Do you see a problem here?  No wonder so many individuals walk around unhappy, sad, sick, spiritually dead and stuck in some terrible storms in life.  God saves us from spiritual death.  The way to learn our instructions is to read our Manual.  He created our every being and only He knows how we should move and work.

As our plane landed, everyone clapped.  We were excited to land safely on the ground.  As God saves you, as He loves you, as you find Him; praise Him.  Give thanks to Him always.  He stands with open arms for you.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for Your saving grace.  My words cannot explain the gratitude I feel for this gift You have given.  Continue to pull on the hearts of others so they may seek You and find their instructions in life.  May I continue to hear You and heed all warnings provided.  I love You.

Country Girl

My husband and I took a subway to downtown Philadelphia and spent most of yesterday there.  The busyness of city life reminded me that I am so a country girl.  I like quiet, calm, home cooking, Mother Nature and fresh air!  Not so much as one of those did I experience on our walk yesterday.  I got loud, hectic, fast food, buildings surrounding me and car exhaust for air. 

Don't get me wrong, the experience created a memory, BUT I would not want to encounter this life each day.  Cities create beautiful skylines as well as provide convenience and entertainment.  I am okay seeing this only a few times in my life.  My anxiety rose with each passing minute.  To add to this pressure, all we have done is eat here and there.  The lies of satan poured in and he had so much fun playing around in my mind.  I stayed somewhat focused but still chose to believe some lies.  My mind was so busy with the chaos around me, I lost site of where to find peace. 

“I, even I, am he who comforts you.
   Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
   human beings who are but grass,
that you forget the LORD your Maker,
   who stretches out the heavens. . ." (Isaiah 5:12-13)

The moment I returned to the hotel, I sought God in the silence of the night.  I was reminded that it will be okay.  I once lived the lost life; not realizing sin consumed my every minute.  My eyes see now and I am no longer trapped by satan's lies.  I know His Truths.  AGAIN, I had to surrender all these negative thoughts to Him.  Thankfully, we serve a forgiving God.  Our Creator loves us regardless of our performance.  Though I encounter troubles which cause my foot to slip, He picks me up, restores my mind and comforts me once more (see Psalm 71).  God, You are amazing!

God reminded me this morning of Jesus being tempted by satan three different times.  Matthew 4:5-7 describes my experience yesterday.  It is written that God's angels will watch over me.  I will not throw myself down as satan would like.  

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:1-3)

So, I envision Jesus preparing a place for me in Heaven.  My place will overlook beauty, be calm, quiet and joyous every moment.  But, then again, no place in Heaven would be anything but what I just described.  Until that glorious day comes, I must lean on Him for the peace I yearn for each day. 

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for beginning a new day, new Mercies and a fresh start.  I am here for You, use me to spread Your Truths.  I love You.

Care - Love - Enjoy

My husband volunteers in a baseball organization (reason for mini-vacation to Philadelphia).  We went to dinner last night with a staff member from the organization.  I sat in on the conversation concerning needed improvements for growth and to create a better work environment for the volunteers.  I continue to listen in amazement at the great ideas being thrown from both parties.  I knew my husband bled baseball, but did not really grasp how equipped he was for this position.  He gives 100% to his volunteer duties because he cares, loves and enjoys baseball.  He wants to see it grow and touch many children's lives.  The organization brings pride to these children who belong to a team and can build a skill.

I remember when my husband began his baseball career as an umpire about 12 years ago.  The volunteer position came into the picture about 4 years ago.  I attended many games he umpired and the words thrown his way were ugly.  The hot, sticky nights presented rough conditions to be under so much equipment for so long a period.  He worked hard and pushed through it all because he cared, loved and enjoyed baseball. 

I sit and think about this example of a guy who started at one of the lowest levels with a loving attitude, working at 100% and enduring the hardships which came with the title.  He read all the rule books to be better equipped for this work.  Day after day, his knowledge grew and opportunities popped up right and left.  This guy was patient, never taking a step off the path laid for this calling.  Now, he works diligently in a position he never dreamed would come in the path.  God only knows the direction of this path and my husband obeys with each step. 

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)

"If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.  All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:" (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)

God created a path for us to carefully follow and fully obey with each step.  He builds our hearts, minds and souls up to do good works for Him.  As He sees us handle the smaller tasks with care, He brings bigger tasks our way.  Our attitude must be positive and enjoy what He places in front of us before any new doors may be opened.   

In order to know the way to follow, we must read His Truths (our rule book) to better equip us for each work.  Our relationship grows as we clothe ourselves in His Word and opportunities to serve continue to present themselves.  Be patient and know where He is leading will bring righteousness.

Jesus worked hard for us and obeyed.  He pushed through the hardships and ugly words thrown His way because He cared, loved and enjoyed pleasing God.  May we take every situation and go through because we care, love and enjoy pleasing Our Creator. 

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for building such a man up to be my teammate in this world.  I learn so much from him and see You loving him daily.  Continue to bless my husband and keep my eyes open to all the good inside him.  The lies of the devil often blind me from the good.  Give me strength to quickly combat those lies, teach me Your Truths as I study Your rule book.  I love You.

Don't Miss The Details

Three encounters with mother nature reminded me how God remains by our side.  He provides such wonderful details to my every day.  Simply put, He is Awesome!!!

My husband and I have ran away on a mini-vacation.  We might not return :)  On our travels to Indianapolis yesterday, we hit some rough storm pockets.  One included hail.  Each about fifteen minutes long, but scary nonetheless.  At one point, hail crashed on our windshield, ran poured down, lightning struck and thunder cracked.  First reminder - Over to the left of us, the sun shone brightly. 

Our first reaction was to pull over and try and wait it out, avoiding the hardship of driving through.  I urged my husband to drive on so as to not sit and continually be hit by the hail.  He placed his hazards on, drove slowly and endured the storm.  We came out with a stronger understanding how to maneuver a car in a rough storm.  Second reminder - This too shall pass.

Upon arrival to Indy, we met with some great friends and went to dinner.  The rain ceased, so we sit outside and enjoyed the sun.  After eating, we noticed to the right of us, the clouds were darkening.  We hurried to our vehicle in perfect timing to avoid the pound from rain.  The rain left as quick as it came and when pulling into our friends subdivision we noticed a beautiful rainbow.  Third reminder - Beauty forming right in front of us.

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had," (Romans 15:4-5)

"being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light."
(Colossians 1:11-12)

So, lesson one - though life may throw some ugly storms our way, God's love shines brightly next to us.  May we see this and cling to Him.  His Truths provide the strength to endure and encourage us to have hope for our future.  Focus on Him.

Lesson two - avoiding the storms in life, allowing the storms to overtake your life or turning around and running only prevents growth.  The storms qualify us to better work for Him.  We may share with others the comfort and lessons learned.  God will see you through.

Lesson three - God will not disappoint in any circumstance.  He will never let you go in life.  We need only to accept His Love through it all.  God never wastes a hurt.  Beauty may come from our ashes.

See every detail God places in your day.  Though the storms may be rough, God still remains.  Rough seasons in life produce perseverance, then character, which leads to hope (see Romans 5:3-5).  Hope in Him!

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for the constant reminder of Your Love for me.  You are such an awesome God who created all things for beauty.  May I keep my eyes open to all of You.  I love You.

Inside -> Out

God continues to amaze me with each restoration of health.  Each faithful step progresses my walk with Him.  Each skeptical step only prevents any growth or healing. 

"Do not be wise in your own eyes;
   fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
   and nourishment to your bones." (Proverbs 3:7-8)

I find the adjustment difficult at times, for I have lived 10+ years in a sick body.  I feel like a foreigner in my own body.  I must remind myself I need not figure everything out, just trust in His miraculous work.  He will allow everything to work out for the good.  The nourishment I receive allows my mind to better focus on Him and work diligently. 

It amazed me yesterday as I mowed the yard, I actually sweat, my strength remained and I could maneuver the mower up and down our hill.  Last year, I there was no sweat, I hurt severely upon completion and the mower controlled me.  God is so GOOD!

I believe no matter the sin, God will restore if we accept His Grace.  The more we learn about Him, the better we may discern between good and evil (see Philippians 1:10).  Therefore, steps may be taken down His path laid for us.  Though the path be narrow and difficult at times, the outcome so outweighs any of the trials.

"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." (Romans 8:5-6)  

The flesh must give it up and surrender so the Spirit may dwell in us.  I lived too long pleasing my flesh, lasting only short periods.  Pleasing Him allows a lasting healing, a lasting joy, a lasting peace and heals us from the inside -> out.  The process must begin on the inside.  Once your spirit comes to peace, He takes care of the other details.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for bringing new life to me.  May I continue to see the path You laid for me so as to receive more of You.  I am here for You, use me wherever You may need.  I love You.

Pure Comfort

Last night we allowed our children to sleep with us.  As I lay next to my daughter, I awoke to a whimper.  I rolled over to see her moving a bit and quickly finding her thumb.  She instantly received comfort from sucking her thumb.  My son would find comfort in his daddy's arm. 

In the morning, my daughter wakes up knowing she will be served her comfort breakfast, mini muffins and white milk.  She then goes to the living room where her cartoon awaits.  She grabs her blanket, finds the tag with one hand and sucks the opposite thumb.  She is living in pure comfort!

My son wakes up knowing he will be served his comfort breakfast, pop-tarts (crust removed) and chocolate milk.  He then proceeds to the living room where his outfit for the day awaits.  He dresses and goes to play with his Lego table.  He is living in pure comfort!

Sounds pretty simple to find comfort and feel no pain.  As we grow, the process becomes difficult.  If we reach for the wrong place to find comfort, the path leads to destruction.  I reached for comfort in alcohol, drugs, starvation, exercise, approval and sleep.  I only found a temporary numb which led to even more pain.  Oh what I would have done for a blanket, a tag, someone's arm and a thumb to suck.

"May your unfailing love be my comfort,
   according to your promise to your servant.
Let your compassion come to me that I may live,
   for your law is my delight." (Psalm 119:76-77)

"Take delight in the LORD,
   and he will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4)

So, I had it all wrong.  I need only go to God and love Him.  He knows my heart and wants me to have an abundant life (see John 10:9-11).  His arms remain open so I may run and be filled with His Truths, comfort and compassion.  Just as my children can trust that mommy and daddy will provide their comforts daily, we can trust that our Father will provide comfort and love daily.

I must stand firm behind God's Truth so when satan comes in with his lies, I shut him down.  Yesterday I experienced how fast the lies come.  One text message opened the flood gates of lies and satan began playing with all my emotions.  I instantly ran to God and His Truth.  I reached out for prayer from my husband.  I am not saying the lies left immediately, but I did not try to numb out or run away from these painful thoughts.  I replaced them with Truth so as to defeat them.  The more we replace lies with Truth, the less power they have over us.   

The devil never quits, so neither should our prayers and study of His Truths.  Run to God, His arms are open wide and He understands.  You will be living in pure comfort!

Thank you God for this day.  Thank You for being the great Father that you are to little ole me.  Your Truth continues to free me from my anxiety.  Thank You for picking me up and dusting me off again.  I love You.

Leaving The Corner

I tend to be slightly obsessed with cleaning my home.  Okay, OVERLY obsessed.  I typically keep it clean along the way so to not face a huge mess all at one time.  My clean house suffered the consequences of my crammed schedule these past couple weeks.  So, I dedicated yesterday to cleaning.  My little girl and I set out in the morning ready to tackle this job. 

I began dusting rooms and moving furniture to mop (no carpet exists in our home).  To my amazement, lots of dust bunnies continued to appear.  Really?  I did not realize it had been that long since I last cleaned. 

My frustration turned inward and I began the guilt trip of not cleaning this house enough.  Wow!  Does that really matter?  NO!  But, as a woman, one with OCD might I add, this was a big deal.

I battle lies such as this daily.  I often feel as though I never do enough.  I feel like my job goes incomplete because life happens and pulls me from my task at hand. 

Guess what my friends; God does not judge on our performance.  He loves each of us because He created us!  Sometimes I feel like a dust bunny.  A dust bunny by definition is a small mass of fluff and dust.  What is dust and fluff?  Junk, dirt, waste and material which needs to meet the trash can quickly.  I often want to find a corner and hide from the pressures in life because I feel like junk, dirt, waste and someone who needs to meet the trash can quickly.

"Though you have made me see troubles,
   many and bitter,
   you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
   you will again bring me up.
You will increase my honor
   and comfort me once more." (Psalm 71:20-21)

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
   do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
   I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10) 

God seems to always find me, hold me and comfort me through His love and grace.  All I need to do is ask and He answers.  I quickly replace those lies with His Truth and renew my mind.  I remember where to find my worth - in Him, not my performance.  I find strength through Him to leave my corner.   

God thank you for today.  Thank You for being my Creator.  I am here because You loved me so much to create me.  For that, I am thankful and willing to work for You.  Keep my thoughts positive and pure.  May all lies from satan quickly be replaced with Your Truth.  I love You.

One Little Blue Jay

Which outfit best works for the event I am attending?  Will we receive a break to relax our nerves, get a little snack and use the restroom?  What does the itinerary look like?  Am I equipped to perform this task God requests?

These questions filled my mind as I prepared to travel with my dearest friend to a local high school and speak on Anorexia. 
I help my friend in a ministry - (http://www.livingintruthministries.com/).  We continue to grow at God's pace.  Take a look at our website! 

Well, God's latest request came to my friend a few weeks ago.  A woman approached her, after discovering the ministry, and asked if she would speak to a health class about her recovery with Bulimia.  She then asked me to accompany her and speak on Anorexia. I felt honored. 

My nerves remained fine until yesterday morning - the day we were to speak.  My stomach fluttered around rapidly and my voice trembled.  God, are you sure?

"in God I trust;I shall not be afraid.
   What can man do to me?" (Psalm 56:11) ESV

As we arrived, our anxieties increased.  We saw all the kids entering the school and waiting for first bell to ring.  Seriously, they are 10+ years younger than us, what can they do to us?  We trusted God to see us through the task He requested.

"That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?  Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?"
 (Matthew 6:25-27)

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need."
(Matthew 6:31-33)

Before entering the school, I pointed out the most beautiful little blue jay.  It perched on the visitor sign in front of the vehicle.  I love birds and took a minute to enjoy this beautiful creation.  God created the smallest of creatures for our enjoyment.  Even though small, God provides daily nourishment for this bird, shelter from the storms and material for a nest.  

God places such care upon this little bird.  Am I not more important than this bird?  Of course!  God will take care of me.  I need not worry about the details in life, but simply keep my focus on Him.  Each step must be straight without turning to the right or left, for evil thoughts and actions lay there (see Proverbs 4:26-27).  Worries decrease your ability to work for Him by consuming our energy.

God took care of us all day.  Every detail played out as He intended.  And now, He will water any seeds we planted throughout the day. 

 

One little Blue Jay spoke volumes to my heart.
Thank you God for this day.  Thank You for caring so much for me.  I know that no detail in my life slips through Your fingers unnoticed.  I love You.

Feeding the Spirit

Just a few words from Him:

"Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,

"For he will command his angels concerning you
   to guard you in all your ways;" (Psalm 91:11)

  "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (James 4:10)

"For no word from God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37)

 "But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.  You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." (Romans 6:17-18)

"As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance."

". . .For the battle is not yours, but God’s." (2 Chronicles 20:15)

So, I must focus on Him daily and not get caught up in the storm surrounding me.  May I continue through this sea of crashing waves without drowning as the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.  I must take each step in faith, leaning on His Word and knowing He will not let me be destroyed.


"So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left."
 (Deuteronomy 5:32)

God thank you for today.  Thank You for speaking to me ever so gently.  I must regain my focus on You.  I know You will lead me down the path to You.  I love You.

Fate or Faith

Fate - Destiny - Consequence - Chance - Luck - Fortune

fate is an event or a course of events that will inevitably happen in the future or the supposed force or power that predetermines events

luck is a combination of circumstances, events, etc., operating by chance to bring good or ill to a person

REALLY?

Life based on these thoughts seems empty to me.  How could a person be confident?  No base for your future.  You simply cross you fingers and wish for luck to strike.  If life operates by chance or a "supposed force", then faith cannot exist.

We serve a God who is so much more.  He planned our life.  He knows the words you will say before you speak (see Psalm 139).  He created every part and placed it exactly where He saw beautiful!  This knowledge may be too much to grasp.  In comes FAITH.  In comes TRUST in Our Creator.

"The LORD makes firm the steps
   of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall,
   for the LORD upholds him with his hand." (Psalm 37:23-24)

God places doors in front of us, places people in our lives, pours blessings over us and loves us every step of the way.  All we must do is trust in Him and praise Him for the work He created in us.  We must take steps in faith through the door He opens.  He will not let us down!
 
"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:4) 

Our life is not a gamble, it is perfectly planned by Our Creator.  It is not by fate or luck we were born.  He chose us to be His Children and carry out a work for Him until Jesus comes for us.  How awesome!

God thank you for today.  Thank You for planning my every day so I need not worry about anything.  You have made the decisions for me.  I need not cross my fingers and wish for luck to come my way.  I believe and hope in You.  May I be still and hear which step I must take next.  I love You.

Check Your Prescription

Without my glasses perched on my nose, I would be blind.  Each year I undergo an eye examine to assure my vision remained the same.  As I place my glasses on in the morning, I am better able to navigate around my home.  If I tried to use the glasses belonging to another, I would still be blind.  My prescription is unique to me.

When we walk with God, we must put on glasses each day as well.  The prescription for these is a bit different than your normal glasses.  The prescription includes - love, kindness, colorblind, peace, joy, forgiveness, patience and faith.  This prescription proves universal.  You need not shop around town for these glasses, simply grab a Bible.  The best looking glasses appear in His Word.  With each Scripture read, your vision becomes a little better until the day we meet Him and it will be 20/20!

Our glasses allow us to see others as God sees them.  Our vision becomes clear and through every situation we see God working diligently.  We will know who needs a hug, a smile, a hand and love.

"Do not be wise in your own eyes;
   fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
   and nourishment to your bones." (Proverbs 3:7-8)

We must be careful not to reach for the glasses with a prescription including - hate, selfish, racism, resent, bitter and retaliation.  Wear glasses of love.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs."
(1 Corinthians 13:4-5)

God thank you for this day.  May I place Your glasses on my eyes to see all I meet as You do.  Keep speaking to me through Your Word.  I love You.

True Friendship

Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating the following on a consistent basis:
  • The tendency to desire what is best for the other.
  • Sympathy and Empathy 
  • Honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing out the perceived faults of one's counterpart
  • Mutual understanding and compassion 
  • Trust in one another (able to express feelings - including in relation to the other's actions - without the fear of being judged); able to go to each other for emotional support
  • Positive reciprocity - a relationship is based on equal give and take between the two parties.
In today's society True Friendships seem scarce.  The connection between people may easily be broken in this fallen world.  Humans let us down.  God remains true, never leaving or forsaking.  God ALWAYS demonstrates the above list (found on Wikipedia) and so much more. 

So, why would we deny Him?  Why run from this true friendship? 

It takes more energy to maintain Earthly relationships.  God accepts us always with open arms.  He loves us without condition.  Wow, what a true friend! 

"Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:12-13)

We need not travel to find this true friend.  He is everywhere.  All we need is faith, seeking Him with all our heart.  The relationship continues as you study with Him and learn His Truths.

I have been fortunate in life to find a few true friends.  God blessed me with human comfort here and continues to show Himself through these close friends.  Once we acknowledge Him, blessings and relationships may grow.  He opens our eyes to see the sincerity in each other's heart.

I was able to visit one of those friends this weekend.  She always listens, always loves and cares about me.  No matter the length between visits, we connect like we spoke for hours just the day before.  Thank You God for this blessing in my life.

God thank you for today.  Thank You for the opportunity to share good times with family and friends.  May I continue to focus on You and see the true friendship You provide every day.  May I not rely on Earthly relationships to keep me uplifted, but know You are constant and will never let me down.  May I continue to pray and spend each day in relationship with You.  I love You.

Avoid The Carnival

I observed, while helping at my son's school carnival, the children ran from game to game with anticipation to win a prize.  Children would return to the game just played in hope to win this time.  Their excitement and joy increased with each prize gained.  Still they would return to win again.

This went on for three hours.  With each try, their strategies were perfected.  The children enjoyed every part of the carnival.

In our lives satan uses strategies to win our minds over.  The lies spoke to us allow him to gain the prize of our joy and focus on God.  I see the devil running from trigger to trigger with anticipation to cause me to fall.  I envision him playing over and over in hopes to win each time.  As I lose my joy, he gains it and destroys my mind.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10)

 "and do not give the devil a foothold." (Ephesians 4:27)

"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." (Ephesians 6:11)

My triggers in life allow a whole carnival for satan to play.  I often battle all day to shut down the games.  With each prayer, God provides much needed strength. 

I began to clean up the game last night and the children slowly dwindled.  God will clean up your mind so as to weaken the power triggers hold on your life.  Lean on God and He will destroy our enemy.  Combat every lie with His Truths.

If the battle is lost and your joy stripped, take heart knowing God's Mercies are new every morning.  He will forgive and provide strength to overcome the lies next time (see Psalm 30:4-5).  Love Him.  Keep Him next to you all day long.  

God thank you for today.  I have failed You lately and allowed satan to play, win, and gloat about his winning.  I am sorry.  I am weak, but I know You are strong and will comfort me through these trials.  Guide my every step so I may follow You.  I love You.

Enjoy The Preparation

Yesterday I informed my three year old of our planned lunch date.  She asked for all the details (what a woman!).  Location: Local country club – Who: Mommy, Daddy and Daughter – Time: – Atmosphere: Beautiful.

My daughter continued to ask when we would leave for the golf place to eat about every 5 minutes, starting at .  She also expressed how hungry she felt.  She just ate breakfast, as well as a snack so hunger was all in her mind.  Her anticipation for this grand lunch date with mommy and daddy grew with each minute passing. 

We went for a walk around the neighborhood but she could not enjoy any of the scenery; thoughts consumed her mind about the lunch date.  She could not see the beautiful bird searching for worms in a neighbor’s yard.  She did not appreciate the new sidewalks which had been laid for a smoother walk.  She missed the cute little dog that seemed eager to see us.

I tried to bring her focus back and let her know we would go, I promise.  I let her know we would leave at just the right time!  She must wait; enjoy the present moment as we prepare for that time.

“I remain confident of this:
   I will see the goodness of the LORD
   in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD;
   be strong and take heart
   and wait for the LORD.” (Psalm 27:13-14)

“I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
   and in his word I put my hope.” (Psalm 130:5)

In the same way our anticipation for worldly pleasures may keep us from seeing Him in our every day.  We must keep our focus on Him.  We must keep our hope in the Lord, knowing this is our temporary home.  Our eternal home waits with pleasures beyond our imagination.

Don’t lose sight of everything God places in front of you in preparation for that glorious day when Jesus returns.  If we miss all the details and instructions, we may arrive unprepared.  If I leaped ahead and left when my daughter wanted, I would have been too early and not dressed for the occasion.  I would have missed all the beauty seen on our walk.  Wait on the Lord, see the goodness He brings each day.  Praise Him for all your blessings.

God thank you for this day.  May I keep my focus on You and the plans you place before me.  May I enjoy every part of preparation as I wait with hope in the day I will meet You.  I love You.

A Willing Heart

The struggles I encounter each day send my anxiety racing.  I often feel I cannot do this.  I lack the strength to be the mom He planned for me.  My selfish mind prevents playing the role of supportive wife.  The negative thoughts I must battle daily limits my ability to serve Him.  My worthless mindset restricts the love I may show to others. 

How can I uplift if I feel I hold nothing to offer?  How can I serve if I feel no strength to fulfill the roles He placed in my life?  How can I move from my ME box to serve Him 100%? 

The closer I walk with God and the more I study His Truths, I realize I CANNOT do this on my own.  It is only through Him that I may find strength.  He never grows tired or weary.  As I serve with my heart and mind the best I can, He will take care of the rest.
"Do you not know?
   Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
   the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
   and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
   and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
   and young men stumble and fall;
 but those who hope in the LORD
   will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
   they will run and not grow weary,
   they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:28-31)

He uses those with a willing heart - who show availability (see Exodus 36:2).  Though I may feel weak, I know my hope can be placed in Him.  He will direct my path and carry me in His Hands.

I shall not run and hide from all these struggles.  I now run to Him.  His arms are open wide and He understands and holds every answer (read lyrics from Chris Tomlin's song - "Come Home Running").  God placed me exactly where He planned.  Through prayer, He will guide my every step so I do not fall.  I am on my knees at the feet of Jesus, humble, ready and willing to serve wherever needed.

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for every day you bring for me to serve You.  May I stay focused and not stray when life becomes difficult.  Without You, life is empty.  May I continue running to You so to hear You and follow Your Word.  Keep a hedge of protection around my weak heart so satan's lies may not come through.  I love You.

Continuous Movement

As I read "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren years ago, one chapter asks about your analogy for life.  I love this idea because I understand and learn through real life examples and analogies.  What analogy could you place on your life?  Roller Coaster, Train Wreck, A Race, Crashing Wave, Gentle Breeze, A Nice Sunday Drive in the Country?

My analogy remains the same.  I see my life as a ferris wheel.  Sometimes I am above, observing life and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  Other times I am below, amongst the chaos in life and surrounded with trials in this world.  I feel focused when at the top of my ferris wheel, able to learn and hear God's Word.  I feel stressed, scared and worry as I enter the hectic, busy life at the bottom of my ferris wheel. 

Hang with me here. 

I realize when life continues smoothly, I remain positive.  I feel better able to learn who I am, where He would like me to travel in life and always uplifted.  Living in the light, not the dark!

As trials approach and I see triggers ahead, I become negative and anxiety rises.  I feel overwhelmed with the chaos of life.  I sometimes lose sight of Him when enduring the tough times.  My heart screams to get off this ferris wheel and run away from it all.

"who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.  In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:5-7) 

I have come to know God and study His Truths.  His Truths provide protection, comfort and assurance.  He protects me from all the fiery darts of my enemy (satan).  He comforts me in all my dark times and afflictions.  He assures me that He has my back and through Him all things are possible.

I am okay with the seasons of life which appear at the bottom of my ferris wheel.  When I approach these seasons, I know what I need - faith.  I must remember in those dark times what I just learned while in the light.  I must remain strong, knowing God stays with me and He guides my every move.  These testing times only strengthen my bond with My Creator and produce perseverance.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4) 

As my ferris wheel continues to move, I am the healthiest.  My faith grows, then I use my faith.  If stopped at either extremity for too long, my spiritual growth remains stunted.  What is knowledge if we remain unable to use it?  (stuck at the top)  How can I ever learn if I allow trials to keep me down and out?  (stuck at the bottom)

God thank you for today.  Thank You for my every breath.  May I continue to learn and use that to keep moving forward.  I know You never waste a hurt.  All times You remain at my side.  You are awesome.  I love You.

Leftovers?

You send out the invitations, all pretty and neat.  You set the table just right, nothing out of place.  You prepare the menu to please all the guests.  You clean every corner in your home, set out the best hand towels in the bathroom and purchase a new blouse to wear for the occasion.

The sequence of events above happen each time you host a party.  Leftovers would not be served at the dinner table.  Laundry would not be strewn all over the house.  Beds would not remain unmade.  Pajamas would not be the chosen attire.

Guests receive the best of everything we possess.  Being a host/hostess consumes much of our energy and time.  Why do we not give that same effort to God?  He gave His only son to die for us so we may live life to the fullest.  Yet, we so often give Him our leftovers.  We come to Him after a long day as exhaustion sets in. 

Let the laundry lay for a bit.  The dishes will not hurt anyone as they sit by the sink.  Leftovers can be eaten for supper.  Run wholeheartedly to Him and study His Truths with 100% focus. 

"For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." 
(Matthew 6:32-34) 

"But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.  When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath." (Deuteronomy 4:29-31)  

He created each of us, the least we can do is give Him the first and best of all we possess.  Our possessions exists because He provided.  He gives His all to us.  Let us give all of ourselves to Him.  He will not forget or abandon us.  Let us not forget or abandon Him.   

Are you a night owl or a morning person?  Find your best time of the day, where you are most focused.  Give that time to Him.  Recall the sufferings Jesus endured for us.  Losing a little sleep cannot even compare. 

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for the rest I received.  May I focus on You daily and keep You first in my day.  I know You will provide what I need throughout my day as I give myself to You and come to know You more.  I love You.

A Common Enemy

2011
-You cannot leave anything in the back of a truck while shopping at another store for it may be stolen.
-You cannot leave your vehicle unlocked in your driveway for it may be rummaged through to find money.
-You cannot leave a purse in a locked vehicle in your driveway for it may be broken into and purse stolen.
-You find it necessary to purchase an Ident-A-Card for your child to aide in finding them if they were lost.
-Your child cannot 'hang out' around town for fear of being taken by a stranger.
-You cannot walk alone for exercise on a secluded path or street for you may be harmed.
-You cannot leave your child alone with "trusted adults" for they may be abused.
-God cannot be mentioned at school for fear of offending someone.

-You could leave your house unlocked while sleeping through the night.
-You could leave your keys in your vehicle while running into the store to pick up a few items.
-You could allow your child to explore the town with friends and know they would return safely at curfew.
-You could choose wherever to enjoy the fresh air and get some exercise.
-Abuse was not a fear when trusting adults with your children.
-The Pledge of Allegiance was spoke every morning at school.  "One nation under God."

Where did America lose focus?  What goes through the minds of individuals who harm another?  Why are we so selfish?

The closer my relationship grows to God, the more hurt and pain I see in this world.  My heart breaks when seeing innocent people becoming victims.  The perpetrator must be experiencing such turmoil inside themselves to commit such sins.  They hurt so they feel another must hurt as well.  Hurting people, hurt people!  Thieves only thinks of themselves (see Philippians 2:2-4).

We have lost focus on God.  We want control.  We think we must please our flesh and neglect our spirit.  Too many individuals experience spiritual hunger.  When satan lies to us, we fall victim for our spirit knows no better.  The thieves and perpetrators in this world lack His Truth in their lives so in turn become victims to satan.  Satan remains the common enemy among all.  We need His Truths to guide us through every day, every situation.  Put your trust in Him, Our Creator.

 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13) 

God Bless America?
America needs to bless God.  If we have turned our backs on Him, why would He pour blessings on us? 

"The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.  The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled."  (Genesis 6:5-6)

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for the opportunity to spread Your Truths to those I encounter.  May You continue to strengthen my heart and those of hurting people so to see You and combat the lies of satan with Your Word.  May I turn to you always.  I love You.

No PH.D Required

Maid

Educator
Referee

These encompass just a few roles mothers play.  We have not earned a PH.D.  You will not see The Mother's Awards on TV.  Our paycheck doe not come in dollars and cents.  No diploma from culinary school exists.

Yes, as mothers we let go of much.  We never 'clock out'.  We choose PB&J sandwiches over steak and potatoes.  Minivan over sports car.  The beauty shop with the best coupon deal over a day at the spa.  Barney Live over visiting a local playhouse.  Rest becomes extinct.

Is it all worth it?

YES!  God trusted us with His most precious creation.  The greatest reward is knowing this simple fact.  We receive payment each time our little one comes and says, "I love you" or wraps those loving arms around our leg.  The experiences of motherhood outweigh any other pleasures in life.  The laughter they provide daily keeps my spirit joyous.  The knowledge and skills displayed brings me pride.  The comments confirm they listen when my husband and I plant seeds. 

 May your father and mother rejoice;
   may she who gave you birth be joyful! (Proverbs 23:25)

Start children off on the way they should go,
   and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

(Proverbs 22:6)

Children are a heritage from the LORD,
   offspring a reward from him. (Psalm 127:3)
 

I believe today is much more than just thanking your mother.  I believe today is a day to appreciate the gift of motherhood.  You do not need to go through the birthing process for God to bless you with a child.  He blesses women through many avenues.  No matter the case, being a mother remains the most difficult job delegated from God.  But, rest assured in knowing God works through you and our strength is in Him.  Look to Him every day, so He may provide the words needed to build children up, love without conditions, teach and not preach and set the example He planned.  Keep Him at the center so your children may do the same.  

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for placing me here to be a mother.  May I be a vessel for You to grow these children up to love and serve You.  Today I need no praise or thanks for I failed You many times in the area of motherhood.  Today I need only thank my children for loving me for me.  Today I need only thank You for trusting me with two beautiful children.  May I throw out my ME box and focus on them each day.  I love You.

Compromise Not Bitterness

Seek to understand before being understood!

As a woman I often approach matters with strong emotions.  Okay, I ALWAYS approach matters with strong emotions.  I come ready to battle when an issue arises in my relationships.  Where does that get me?  I fall into anger, stubbornness, anxiety, impatience, stunt my spiritual growth, create a bigger wedge for the relationship, anger, anger and did I mention anger!

I don't know what you think, but none of this sounds fun.  The relationship only suffers when I come in defense of what I think should be or how I think the other should feel.  God changes each of His Children at the time He sees perfect.  I cannot make another feel the way I do or change opinions and ideas of another.  Their thoughts and feelings make up their character.  It would be pretty boring if we all felt the same way about all matters.  Life would not progress or flourish if we all held the same thoughts and ideas. 

 Whoever is patient has great understanding,
   but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
(Proverbs 14:29)

The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
   and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
(Proverbs 17:27)

By wisdom a house is built,
   and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled
   with rare and beautiful treasures.
(Proverbs 24:2-4)

If two come together with a conflict and open their hearts and minds to understand the other, compromise may be the result.  Without understanding, destruction and resentment may be the result.  I, by nature, am stubborn so must work hard not to act defensively.  God continues to prune away at me and I realize I must obey.  He searches and finds all offensive ways in me so I may shed any hindrances to following Him (see Psalm 139:23-24).

Another lesson learned.  I ask for prayer on this one.  My hard heart and stubborn mind must be replaced with a soft heart and open mind.  My relationships will be blessed and become healthy.

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for another day of discipline I received yesterday.  I pray I can continue each relationship with a loving mind and crush my stubborn spirit.  I pray You come into every conflict so the result is compromise and not bitterness.  I love You.

The Perfect Team

So, the sun decided to come out yesterday for the first time in days.  I called my stepmom and we met to walk for a bit.  As we walked, talked and solved all the problems of the world (as women always do!), I thought back to when she first came into my life.  I wanted no part of a stepmom.  I would not even respect her enough to give her the title of stepmom (she remained introduced as my dad's wife).  OUCH!

My maturity level grew since that time and I now feel proud to call her my stepmom.  At the time, I still held all the anger, sadness, resentment and rejection from my parent's divorce.  Why would my dad do this to ME?  I did not want another woman in MY life?  I do not agree with this marriage, no one asked ME!  I will not allow her be a part of MY life!

Anybody see that I was totally living a life where population = ME?

Life situations occur not by our choice.  God plans every situation for our lives (see Jeremiah 29:11).  Trouble arises when we reject Him, flee from those situations and believe WE know best.  We must humble ourselves and accept the life He plans for us.  In order to do this, we must think beyond our own emotions.

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” 
(Luke 6:37-38) 

Who am I to judge?  God has taught me much since the day I met my stepmom.  The relationship with my dad and stepmom received healing only when I realized He is in control.  I needed to tear my walls down and mend those relationships.  God poured blessings in my life and used us as a family to further His Kingdom once I obeyed His command to forgive.     

Although families form in various ways, God knows which individuals create the perfect team.  God also knows He must remain at the center of every family so to stay on His Path.  As we pray through the trials, we bond closer and love stronger.  We must not turn against one another, but lean on God for direction and comfort.  

God thank you for this day.  Thank You for every breath I take.  Thank You for the conversations, the memories and the love I receive from each of my family members.  Forget the prefix - step - I know you placed each family member in my life to love me and care for me.  Thanks.  I love you.
