One Step at a Time

A final exam requires one to study all the information presented throughout the whole semester.  The exam will cover many topics, not just one.  The thought of studying so much creates anxiety.  Unaware of which questions will appear on the exam may be overwhelming.

A vacation to Florida sounds awesome; but, traveling there creates a dreadful feeling.  The list of preparation may be overwhelming; maintenance to the vehicle, packing the family, leaving on time, having enough money, etc.  As the road trip begins, the miles feel endless and arrival so far away.  With each exit passed a reminder appears of how much longer the journey lasts.

After being hired at a new establishment, one must learn the way this particular place functions.  Yes, one may have a degree and understand the line of work completely, but each employer runs the business a bit different.  The first day may seem overwhelming with new information; the location of the break room, lunch time, deadlines, operation of different machines, organization of the files, etc.  After eight hours of training, it may feel like fitting in and comfortable will never come.

So, what if a person in these situations just gives up?  After the first day of studying for the exam, the student throws up their hands and quits.  After passing the first exit while traveling to Florida, the family turns around and says, "Well, home is closer than Florida, so let's go back."  After the first day of training, the employee does not return because too much is required to learn the job.

Does giving up make sense in any of these scenarios?
Would the desired outcome ever be reached?

"Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always." (1 Chronicles 16:10-11)

"However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.  For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?"
(1 Peter 4:16-17)

Around this time of year, we look to see what changes need made in our life.  Whatever the new decision, it takes strength, courage and a desired heart.  Change does not come easy.  Our flesh wants comfort and to remain in the known.

Well, my friends, God is calling us to a higher standard.  He wants you to look to Him for strength.  The circumstances and patterns of life you lead did not appear overnight.  Therefore, the desired result will not come with the snap of a finger.  A student must dedicate time to studying each day leading to a final exam.  A family must remain patient in the vehicle and enjoy the ride to the destination.  A new employee must take a deep breath and learn to know the ins and outs of the new place.

He is our strength.  Take each day at a time, each decision at a time and pray through every difficulty.  Soon, you will look back and think, "Wow, I am where God desired me to be."  Try not to overwhelm yourself with the end result, but look to Him every day to guide your steps towards the path He laid for you!  Obey His commands, though trial and trouble may come.  Remember, He is the only way to peace.  Do not give up when times get tough or the flesh feels uncomfortable; rather, focus on Him and the results He plans for the future.  Praise Him with each progressive step.  Keep taking one step at a time!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for providing strength each day to eat the menu created by You, exercise in a healthy manner, persevere in doing what is good, seeking You with each decision and the conversations we have through prayer.  Thank You for providing Truth to follow and guide me in this life.  I am here to be used by You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Already Won

My daughter and I went on a mini-vacation and arrived home late in the evening.  Exhaustion had set in, unpacking necessary and laundry lay ahead!  I did not even want to think about all the work.

Two boys stayed home while we girls went away.  I remained unsure of the status of my house and a part of me did not even want to think about it either.  Company was coming in a few days and I knew my "to do" list for cleaning was long.  The bathrooms needed cleaning (including the shower), floors mopped, dishes done, menu planned, playroom picked up (that is at least an hour in and of itself), dusting of furniture, clean beds, etc.  The list is endless!

Oh, yeah, not to mention carrying in all our luggage and junk accumulated while on vacation.  Before I even turned into our road, my thoughts overwhelmed my whole mind.  I wanted to turn around and go back to our vacation spot (my mom's).

I pulled the van into the driveway, backing up to the house to make unloading easier.  Before I shifted the gear in park, my knight in shining armor ran down the steps of our deck to carry in heavy luggage.  I unbuckled my daughter and he already completed over half the work.  I think I carried in one load.  Then, I walk into a sparkling clean home.  No dishes appeared, the floors shined, not a speck of dust on furniture, bathrooms AND showers scrubbed and he began taking my dirty laundry and loading it in the washer.  I unpacked and then was led by the two boys to see other projects.  The playroom, not only was picked up, but totally reorganized to look spectacular!  My son's room received the same reorganization.

What a relief I felt to know my housecleaning battle was already won!!!

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

"Evening, morning and noon
   I cry out in distress,
   and he hears my voice.
He rescues me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me." (Psalm 55:17-18)

Your morning may come with a huge list of tasks, troubles of all kinds, the unknown, a heavy heart, etc.; but, guess what?  Your Savior came to this Earth, died and washed it all away for you.  He took every burden that was, is and yet to come up with Him.  The daily battle has already been won.  Give it all to Him.

He will rescue you as you cry to Him.  An overwhelming peace enters your every moment when your entire being surrenders to Him.  You will see, upon entering the battlefield, He already came and took care of it all for you.  Rid yourself of anxiety, distress and worry.  He has got your back.

We are guaranteed trouble in this world.  The Earth and all the people in it are broken, sinning and falling short of His Glory each day.  But, know in your heart that He will take care of you, believe He will lead you in this life to Eternity in Heaven and trust in His ways.  He knows your heart and sees your obedience.  His mercies renew each morning and forgiveness remains.  He overcame this world and sits with open arms, waiting for you to believe in Him and follow His example.

What a relief to know that our battle here on Earth is already won!!!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for taking all my burdens and leading me through any trials.  Teach me Your ways and show me how to become more like You daily.  Thank You for saving me, loving me so much to give Your only Son to die for little 'ole me, a sinner.  I trust in You and I give my day, my whole being to You.  Use this child to further Your Kingdom.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Further His Kingdom

I just returned from vacation with my daughter, my best friend and her daughter.  She had been driving the final stretch in our van.  When arriving at their home, she parked the car and turned off the headlights.  We kept the vehicle running while carrying in her luggage.  Goodbyes were said.  Then I plopped in the driver's seat and proceeded to leave.

Street lights shone brightly.  I helped my daughter get all she needed to be content for the short journey to our home.  I turned the heat up a little, handed her a blanket, pushed play on the DVD player and continued to make my way back to the main street.  I knew my way around these streets quite well.  I pulled up to a stop sign and called my husband.  Then, I turned right onto the main street, homeward bound.

I passed a policeman and quickly, he turned his car around.  He gained speed on me and at first I thought maybe I did not stop COMPLETELY at the stop sign.  Maybe it was more like a pause.  Of course, blue and red lights begin flashing.  I tell my husband I must call him back.  I pulled over and the nice gentleman came upon my window.  I thought for sure I was going to be cited for failure to stop completely (which is $132.00 in our town).  He came up and informed me that my headlights were off.  The lights remained in parking position so I could read my dash, but the road was dark.

I had no idea because I had not reached an area of complete darkness yet.  The street lights were sufficient.  I received a warning.  Without that warning, I could have driven in the darkness and wrecked.  Without that warning, I may never reach home sweet home.

“Again, when a righteous person turns from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.  But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.” (Ezekiel 3:20-21)

Thanks to that event, I will check twice before driving away that my headlights are on fully.  If the policeman avoided pulling me over, both of us would be in trouble.  He may be reprimanded if caught not fulfilling his purpose as a policeman and I stand the chance of wrecking.  He could have avoided the hassle of filling out a warning, taking time to pull me over and continued on his merry way.  He may have been going back to the station to clock out for the night.  Maybe his family waits at home for him to return to eat a nice supper together.  He may have not felt his best and really did not feel like getting out in the cold to write some scatterbrained woman a warning.  So many excuses could have kept him from doing what he knew was right.

Don't we hear those excuses daily when opportunity comes to spread the Good News?  Do you ever listen to those excuses while watching another allow sin consume their lives?

We must fulfill our purpose in every situation and with every opportunity.  The purpose - furthering His Kingdom, warning others about where sin leads and spreading Truth.  Failing to do so, affects our journey with God.  Avoid the excuse that someone else will do it, I just do not feel well today, maybe at another time or I don't want that person to hate me.  Lift that person up in prayer and God will show you the Way to teach and warn against sin.  He will provide the words and strength.  Trust in Him!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for providing Truth to follow, lead, teach, rebuke and correct.  Help me use Your Word to help others consumed in sin.  Lead me to those that will be touched by my story and places where seed needs planted.  I am here, use me as Your vessel.  Also, let me heed warning given to me from others when I sin.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Filling a Love Jar

Looking back on all the gifts I received this Christmas, I feel so loved.  The gifts were not purchased last minute or just to have something to wrap and give.  No, each gift came with thought.  The person chose an item that coincides with my desires and passions.

The thought and time was gift in and of itself for me.  I smile knowing someone cared enough for me to give me an item that was exactly what I would choose.

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." (Romans 12:9-10)

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." (1 John 4:7-8)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)

My friends, we are to love one another just as God loves us daily.  He sets the example to follow.  The love received from Him is indescribable; yet, we should strive towards this with everyone we meet.  Place yourself in His arms and allow Him to use you to shine love.

He knows everything about you; therefore He can provide the most perfect love.  Take time to get to know another person and engage in conversation to learn what they like.  It is then that you can spread love as God planned.  You focus on the interest of the other and can fill their heart with love.  Some desire time, acts of service, affection, thoughtful gifts, focused attention, etc.  Each person possesses a different love language.  Avoid filling your own love jar and begin filling another's.  Learn their love language.

This person can be a friend, co-worker, spouse, child or family member.  Whoever comes into your path comes because God desires you to spread love.  Seek Him for the ways to do so.  The best way to learn about love is from the One who is love!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for sending others to love me and show compassion towards me.  Show me how I can love all I meet.  I am here to shine Your light of love to all placed in my path.  I desire to bring a smile to another's face.  Use me.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

You Never Lose Value

Young and old receive new toys for Christmas.  Society declared Christmas as a time of gift giving and receiving.  We excitedly open each perfectly wrapped item and smile as the very thing we desired is revealed.  Months go by, and come about July; we lose interest in that once admired item.  The value of it diminishes.  Two options arise; give it to someone else and replace it with a newer version OR let it sit on our shelf and collect dust, being of no use.

Our vehicles run hard through the winter time on snow and ice and under dangerously low temperatures.  Come spring, we notice the treacherous surroundings lessened the value in our vehicle.  It may need the oil changed, the outside painted, new tires, etc.  Two options arise; spend the money for upkeep and drive it until it dies OR sell it as is for much cheaper than you hoped.

Do you ever feel like the once desired gift now sitting collecting dust?  Do you ever feel of no value due to the circumstances and surroundings you encountered?  God created everyone with a purpose.  He does not count any as lost and nothing can stop His plan for your life if you follow His commands.  Until He comes for you; you are of value here on Earth.

“As for God, his way is perfect:
   The LORD’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him. (2 Samuel 22:31)

'But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.'
(2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)

At the beginning of a new year, we evaluate the past and become critical of ourselves.  Our focus hones in on the negative and how to make better use of ourselves here on Earth.  We look only at our failures and may even berate ourselves because we did not live up to OUR standards.  We may feel "beat up" due to all the hardship experienced the past year.  We may feel useless, unworthy or weak.  We are willing to do whatever it takes to make this year better.  This evaluation can be critical to your journey with God.  Two options arise; seek the world for approval OR believe in God and follow His way.

Seeking the world leads to destruction.  We replace our old version of life with a newer version that fits in with society's view of valuable.  Gaining approval at any cost from society leaves you exhausted and unhappy.  Some extreme measures include surgery to alter looks, drinking to "fit in" at gatherings, going in debt to remain on the fashion train at that time, leaving a family because times are just too hard, walking away from a career, etc.  Still some just give up and do nothing.  They remain, feeling useless.

Following God leads to Eternal life in Heaven.  Believe His Way is the only option.  He created YOU!  YOU WERE CREATED WITH A PURPOSE AND PLAN IN MIND.  God wants to use you until He comes for you.  From the moment of conception, your plan began.  The moment Mary knew she would carry Jesus, His plan began.  He came with a purpose and so do you.  When weakness strikes and Satan tells you worthless lies, seek God.  Seek the Truth.  Times will be tough, some years not as YOU planned; but, persevere and cling to Him.  God works all things out for the good of those who love Him.  Repent for any sins and continue on His path.  Do not altar what God created to coincide with society.  He created you in His image; praise Him for the person He created!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for creating me to come here and carry out Your plan.  Continue to guide my every move and every word.  Use me every moment of every day.  Send Your Holy Spirit to help me discern between Your Truth and Satan's lies.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

The Greatest Gift Ever!

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:11-12)

"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:16-17)

Wow!  Just reflect and place yourself in that day; the day our Lord and Savior came to Earth to dwell among men.  He entered just as you and I.  He experienced growing up just as you and I.  He faced trials of many kinds, rejection and ugly words spat His way just as you and I.  Yet, He was without sin.  He did not hide from anything His Father placed in front of Him.  He persevered, completing the task given with full confidence in His Father.

He dwelt among men because God so loved each of us living in this world.  God wanted to provide an example of how we are to live and then use His only Son to wash away all our sins.  God loved each of us so much that after sending Jesus to die for us, He sends His Holy Spirit daily to live within us.  Will you accept this gift from our Creator?

Believe in Him; remember His birth, life and death.  Do not forget the example Jesus presented for us to follow and the relationship He had with His Father.  God yearns also for a relationship with you.  He loves you so much and waits with open arms to have you in His presence.  One thing we must do to begin this relationship - accept Him into our lives.  Imagine your beloved partner kneeling on one knee requesting your hand in marriage; one of full commitment, to live every day, every moment together.  Accepting the offer requires all of you be given to one person and work together as one for the better.

Well, God wants your hand in commitment to Him.  He wants you to wake up every morning and give all of yourself to Him.  He loves you so much and asks that you work together with Him forever to further His Kingdom.  Will you accept this offer from our Creator?

Remember all the ways God showed His love.  One of the greatest gifts given - His only Son - born to us in a manger on a dark, cold night in Bethlehem.  There was neither room nor bed for our dear Savior that evening.  Giving back to God includes obedience, faith, hope, love and wholehearted devotion.  Make room in your life for our dear Savior.  Celebrate His birth, remember His death and hope for His coming!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for bringing Your only Son into this life to set an example and die for my sins.  I am here daily for You.  I want to give all of me back to You.  Use me and guide me through the plans for my life.  I love You.

Thank You Mary!

The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.  But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
(Luke 1:28-33)

And Mary said:
   “My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant. . .
(Luke 1:46-48)

I would like to think if an angel appeared to me with such news as Mary received that I would obey without question.  I would like to think that my heart would fill with thanks and my faith strengthened all the more.  I would like to think I would not deny the wonderful works of God to merely save a reputation.  Yes, rejection, trials and emotions may come with obeying; BUT, I would know this is His plan.  He works all things out for the good of those who love Him and obey Him and follow His Will.

Mary did just that.  She simply responded to the angel by saying, "I am the Lord's servant.  May your word to me be fulfilled." (Luke 1:38)  And with that, the angel left and the Holy Spirit consumed Mary to carry child.  Not just any child, the Son of God!  Had she contested or refused this wonderful task, where would we be now?

How many times has God placed a task on your heart and you contested or refused?  How many excuses did you try to reason with God and explain that this is too great a task for you?  Do you realize with Whom you are speaking?

Obeying His Will may not make you popular.  Obeying His Will may cause strife in your family.  Obeying His Will may bring discomfort for a little while.  But, our purpose here is not to please "men".  God created us to serve Him and work according to His Will.  Conforming to the patterns of this world only leads to destruction.  Renew yourself daily with Truth and see His plan is perfect.  Following Him brings unexplainable peace and a room created just for you in Heaven.

I thank Mary for obeying.  Without Jesus, life is not worth living.  But, since Mary said YES and served wholeheartedly; we received the greatest gift of all - Jesus.  He came to earth as a small baby, lived among us, set the example, died for our sins and rose to Heaven so the Holy Spirit may come down and live within us daily.

Will you say YES to Jesus?  Will you begin today to follow His example?  Will you surrender and offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God?  Will you be a Mary?

I challenge you to examine your life and see which area you find difficult to give to God.  Since Mary gave her whole being to God, millions of lives have been saved.  Do not think of yourself any less.  As you place your life in His hands, millions of lives can and will be saved!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to consume Mary and bring Your only Son to live among us.  Thank You for Him.  Keep my mind focused on you and not the patterns of this world.  I surrender all to You today and let You use me as a vessel.  May my words be Yours.  I love You.

A Life Can be Changed

In the movie, A Christmas Carol, we see a mean old man consumed by greed.  He views Christmas as pointless, a poor excuse to take off work and lose money.  He wants nothing to do with spreading good cheer, helping others in need, singing, dancing or anything else to do with celebrating this wondrous time of year.  He begins the movie an old Scrooge, but ends as a man full of generosity, love and kindness.

What changed this man?  All the townsfolk despised old Scrooge and waited for him to die.  No one had faith that he could ever change his ways and see the light.

Well, on Christmas Eve, Scrooge had three uninvited guests come into his home.  First, a ghost from the past revealed to Scrooge the times already lived.  Nothing remained hidden and the hurts appeared one by one that built the hard heart of Scrooge.  He pleaded with each memory not to see anymore.  Second, a ghost of present time revealed the current ugliness of Scrooge's life.  The ghost made known the troubles of poor souls all around town that Scrooge could not see due to his own selfish, greedy life.

Lastly, a ghost of yet to come appeared to old Scrooge.  The townsfolk celebrated, snickered at joyous comments of a wretched man finally dead.  Smiles filled the faces of many to know that evil left the town.  Scrooge finds that evil to be him.  He pleads with the spirit that this night has changed him for the better and he now wants to follow the right path.  He begs to change the yet to come by leaving the wretched man behind and living generously and lovingly.

"Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
   “Wake up, sleeper,
   rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is." (Ephesians 5:6-17)

Wake up and start today following the light.  Our future will not be revealed to us as Scrooge experienced.  But, be assured that living in darkness and centered around self will lead to a destructive future.  Many fear coming into the light and remain comfortable in the dark.  Why?  Because, like Scrooge, coming in to the light reveals all the sins hiding in the darkness.  Many fear all their past ugliness, hurt, sadness or sins can never be erased.  Oh, but they are erased.  Jesus died on the cross to wash away ALL SINS.  As you accept Him and believe in Him, your future becomes fixed and a room waits in Heaven for you.

Continue each day living in the light and following His commands.  Be His children and make wise choices.  Take every opportunity presented and be His hands and feet.  Love others as He has loved you.  Just as Scrooge turned his life around to change what would have been; you can begin today to follow God and turn your life around to allow His light to shine through you.

As Scrooge sees his grave, he says, "These events can be changed!  A life can be made right."  A life can be made right when accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  Do not let this world deceive you, but stay focused on His Will!

God, thank you for another day.  I will follow You WHEREVER, WHENEVER, and WHATEVER is commanded by You.  I want no darkness in my life.  Reveal any selfish, greedy, unkind or hateful ways in me so I may change to follow Your Will.  Thank You for Scripture to fill me with Truth that I may obey.  Shine Your light through me each day and continue using me to further Your Kingdom.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

All the Days of the Year

My husband and I were talking about New Year's resolutions.  Most people evaluate the past year, see what areas require improvement, set a goal and intend to stick with it the coming year.  Some include spend more time with the family, create a healthy meal plan, work out every day, hug and kiss my spouse every day, become debt free, etc.  We each experience different areas of weakness and look to improve.

Once we complete our goals, we may hang them somewhere for all to see.  New Year's Day comes and we persevere to accomplish the goals.  The gyms fill with individuals determined to shed some pounds.  Grocery stores and restaurants advertise all the "healthy" food to help consumers make better choices.  Families take time to focus on each other.  God hears some new voices lifting up prayer.

What happens around March?  The treadmills quite moving, weights remain unmoved and the money spent on a membership wasted.  Restaurants still offer healthy choices, but find consumers ignoring that section of the menu.  Families become busy and forget the resolution.  Unfortunately, God gets the back burner as well.

"Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." (1 Timothy 4:15-16)

"So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." (Hebrews 10:35-36)

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9)

It takes faith, courage, strength and discipline to do what is right.  God provides all these and more.  We must seek Him to figure out what area in our lives needs improvement.  Ask Him if any offensive ways appear in your life and He will show you the proper steps to get back on the straight path.  Give your resolutions to Him and let Him give you strength to persevere.

In order to lose the weight, you must remain working out.  To change eating habits, you must continue each day to make healthier choices.  To keep the family close, you must make it a priority to spend time with them.  Changing our lives for the good cannot happen overnight or go for a little bit, then give up.  To see results, one must be diligent in their work.

Just so with our relationship with God; we must obey His commands daily.  We cannot just follow when no trials appear in life, only a few months of the year or just to fulfill a list of resolutions.  We must follow ALWAYS.  We cannot just attend church two to three times a year and think we did our part.  We must give ourselves wholly to Him and not grow weary in obeying His commands.  We will reap a harvest and see great results if we do not give up.

Churches will fill to capacity at Christmas time.  Gyms will fill to capacity during the first months of the year.  Healthy food will fill the cabinets in kitchens all around for a while.  What about the rest of the year?  Let us work to continue on the right path, the path created by God.  Join Him in church each week, spend daily time in His Word to bring spiritual nourishment, take care of your body all year round and eat healthy to remain strong and be able to carry out the commands given by God.  You will be richly rewarded!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for the chance to spend this time as Your servant here on Earth.  Continue to show me what areas need improvement to better serve You.  Provide strength to persevere through the tough times and remain faithful to Your Truth.  Help me to spread Your Word each day.  Guide me where Your plan leads.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Just go with it

My husband cannot handle surprises.  I enjoy surprising others with something to show the love I feel for them.  So, if you can imagine, these particular traits do not go well together in our marriage.  My husband will nag, pry, ask way too many questions and persevere until he discovers what plans I have for him.

I tell him to just go with it and wait for the wonderful things to come.  Well, he does not settle for that response.  As he continues to ask, I tell him to be patient, wait for answers to all your questions.  He cannot just chill and wait quietly.  A few questions I can answer immediately with a yes!  Some questions I can answer at a later time!  And to some of his suggestions, I say that something better waits.

"LORD, I wait for you;
you will answer, Lord my God." (Psalm 38:15)

"Hear my cry for help,
   my King and my God,
   for to you I pray.
 In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
   and wait expectantly." (Psalm 5:2-3)

Well, my friends, we can be just like my husband when it comes to our prayers.  The unknown brings anxiety, waiting patiently does not exist in today's society and WE think we know what is best for ourselves.  God holds many surprises for our lives.  Yet, we tend to nag, pry, ask way too many questions and try to figure out the plans He holds for that season in our life.

God plans good things in the lives of His followers.  He waits for just the perfect time (His time) to send prosperity and delegate the plans for that particular season in your life.  His law is perfect, His commands given in love.  He sees the whole picture and only He knows what is best for you.

Send your requests, concerns and thoughts to God.  Then, just go with what He gives as an answer and wait patiently for the wonderful things to come.  A few prayers He answers immediately with a yes!  Some will require a waiting period until answered with a yes!  And still others will receive a much better answer than expected.  Remember, He always comes through with the right answer.  He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Resist an impatient spirit.  Lift up prayers and then resist the temptation to ask how or when.  He will take care of you.  Have faith that He will answer.  Praise Him for the answers received!

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for listening to my prayers and answering in Your timing.  I can be impatient on many occasions and for that I am sorry.  Help me remember that You know what is best.  My prayers are in good hands when I lift them to You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Enough is Enough

My dad recently moved closer to me.  Before, he lived about four hours away with little communication between us.  The day he moved closer, I realized a conversation must occur to improve our relationship.  We talked and decided it was time to place all hurt behind us, forgive one another and throw away our resentment boxes.  We allowed our past to fog our thoughts and prevent any kind of relationship between us.  Enough is enough!  The past is pardoned.

Since living closer, my dad and I grew to love, enjoy and help one another.  He listens, encourages, comforts, leads, loves, helps and has fun.  Several times I look up to God and thank Him for consuming this relationship and growing it to where He planned in the beginning.  Somehow, my dad and I got off track and began running in different directions; focusing only on negative.  Now, we love the way God intends and focus only on positive.

I watch him with my children and my heart fills with gladness to see my children love their Pawpaw.  I sit and play a game with him and my eyes begin to tear because I am enjoying my time with my dad.  In the past, I yearned for this, but never received it.  I call him one day to come and help me pick up a new dresser.  He comes without hesitation.  With each moment, our relationship grows stronger.

As I drove back to work one day from lunch, I look over and see a little black truck with a dog in the bed and a handsome man driving.  Yes, that is my dad.  I am so proud to say that now and just thank God for him.  I am comforted to know my dad is so near now, in distance and in relationship.

"The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them." (Psalm 145:17-19)

Because of our past, my father and I suffered in relationship.  In the same way, we may think because of our past, the relationship with our Father suffers.  We may feel distant from our Father and fail to communicate with Him.  We may think it has been way too long to even try to build a relationship or He would never forgive past actions.  We may feel the last church we attended did not fulfill our needs or the people there hurt us.  A resentment box towards any church may have been built and therefore, we refuse to try and build a relationship with our Father.  Well, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!  All that is in the past and your past is pardoned.

Your Father wants a relationship with you.  The relationship may have begun on the wrong track or you may have strayed.  But, He waits with open arms for those who cry out to Him.  Sit down, hold a conversation with Him and ask Him into your life.  He will fill your heart with gladness, your days with joy and come to help you without hesitation.  In every moment spent with Him, the relationship grows stronger.

Be proud to say that you have a Father who never leaves nor forsakes.  He is faithful in all He does.  He is near always.  Come to Him with an open heart and lay it all down at the cross.  Begin today and build a relationship with your Father.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for accepting me always and loving me though I fall short of Your glory each day.  Thank You for teaching me and leading me in the way I should go.  Thank You for binding my relationship with my earthly father as well as with You, my Heavenly Father.  I am Your child and I am here for You.  Use me in any way to spread Your Truth and help others grow closer to You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

His Wisdom not yours

A bias causes partiality or favoritism in a person and may influence a decision.  The decision or conclusion is done unfairly, with a prejudiced mind.

An opinion derives from personal views or attitudes.  It is a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.  Decisions or conclusions made off opinions are done so unfairly, with prejudiced minds.

Satan loves to help us with our opinion and bias.  He loves to build ideas in our mind on how WE think a situation should play out.  As a decision arises in our lives, we may first run to our opinion, bias or idea on the matter.  We may go to Scripture to read and seek and answer.  But, if we take our own thoughts with us, we stand risk for Satan to use our prejudiced minds to reason out that our own ideas are the answer.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
            declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:8-9)

"Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions." (Proverbs 18:2)

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
   and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil." (Proverbs 3:5-7)

We must be careful to leave all bias and opinion at the cross.  Seek counsel with an open heart, clear mind and willing spirit.  Give no foothold to the devil by fogging your mind with worldly thoughts.  Lean on God, not your understanding on a situation.  God sees the bigger picture.  We walk around with blinders on and cannot see past the moment.  Rid yourself of yourself and allow God to consume your heart, soul and mind.

He holds your life plan in His hands.  The entire picture is complete in His thoughts.  He is the way.  Do not use prejudice to reason out a situation to fit YOUR plan.  Fear the Lord and shun evil.  Rely on His wisdom to conclude where your feet may step or what words may come from your mouth.

Read the Truth for what it is, not for what you think it should be.  His word is Truth and cannot be twisted or separated from context to fit YOUR plan.  Let go and let God control.  Trust Him for He knows what He is doing!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for loving me unconditionally.  Thank You for counseling me with Truth.  Rid me of bias and opinion and fill me with Truth.  Clean my heart out with Your Word and wisdom.  Send your Holy Spirit to consume my day and guide my thoughts.  I give this day to You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

His Works are Wonderful

I watched a movie recently with my family and observed a few disturbing facts.  I am not a person to just watch a movie.  I analyze the movie and often empathize with the characters to the point of crying from time to time.  My thoughts travel much deeper than the intended storyline.

During this particular movie I noticed a few times when a woman/girl based her joy on the opinion of another (in these cases, men/boys).  The first occurred with a young girl desiring an invitation to the school "Snowball" dance.  She had a guy in mind and waited for his call.  Unfortunately, word got to him (from several of her friends) that she yearned for him to call and extend the invite.  This news brought tears to her eyes and a pathetic feeling in her heart.  She did not want him pressured to ask; she wanted to be chosen without influence from others.  She wanted to be loved.  Her spirit was crushed because one guy did not choose her as a date.

Then, another occurred with the same girl.  She did get asked to the dance.  Her dad took her to buy a dress.  This event took hours upon hours.  You may not realize it, but the mirrors in dressing rooms can be used by Satan to destroy a person's thoughts.  Well, the young girl allowed this mirror to find fault in the image seen with numerous dresses.  Finally, her dad and brother asked her to allow them to see her in whatever dress she had on at the moment.  Her brother commented, "You look like an angel" and her dad, "You are beautiful."  She shrugged both comments off and did not believe.  Her spirit was crushed already because Satan lied to her for the past hours.

The final one occurred with another woman.  She dressed up for a company event and fixed her hair nicely.  Upon arrival, she reported to her boss and began running the status of the evening by him.  Her position required her to answer to him and do whatever he asked.  After the boss was up to date with the evening, he quickly told her she looked pretty (in a passing breath).  The look on her face revealed shock.  It seemed as though she never heard those words.  She stood for a minute in complete disbelief, but then walked proudly away.  Until that comment, she did not think beauty and her name could exist in the same sentence.  Her spirit had always been crushed because no one ever took the time to tell her she was beautiful.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be." (Psalm 139:14-16)

"For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,  because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer." (1 Timothy 4:4-5)

In the movie, a joyful spirit relied on acceptance, a visual image and an opinion from another.  Meditate on the next three sentences.  God touched your every fiber with His fingers as He created you.  He created you with a plan and purpose in mind.  Everything God creates is GOOD and ACCEPTED!

My dear friends, take a stand against the lies of Satan, the opinions of others, the mirror and the disappointments in this world.  God accepts you.  He loves every piece of your being.  He created you from His image and sees no flaws.  Nothing created by Him is to be thrown out or belittled.  Believe the Truth, found only in Scripture.  Your definition, the meaning of your existence only exists in the Bible.  The world and Satan feed lies to you.  Seek God for counsel and Truth.  You are beautiful.  He makes no junk!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for loving me and presenting Truth to me each day.  Thank You for Your Word so I may know who I am in You.  I will work every day to combat any lies coming in my thoughts with the Truth you offer.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Pain is Beauty

My husband and I recently purchased a new dresser to match our new decor in our bedroom.  My dad helped me bring the new one to our house and move out the old one.  I lifted only the drawers and helped a bit on the steps outside to move the old one to his truck.  The dressers were awkward to carry.  No matter how we tried position it, we could not carry it comfortably.

After he left with the old dresser, I attempted to move the new one into our room.  It sat in our living room, so I needed to walk down our hall and into our bedroom.  The drawers were out of it, so I carried it from the inside and propped it on my shoulder.  I made it all the way to our bedroom door, then took a little rest.  I moved it the final, short distance by hugging it and lifting.  Once positioned correctly, I placed our small TV on top.  I say the TV is small, but it too is awkward because the shape is rectangular, not perfectly squared.  All looked perfect for my husband to see when he arrived home from work.

I will admit; I should not have carried that much weight.  During the whole process, my muscles felt uncomfortable and stretched greatly.  I actually think I even pulled a few.  But, I kept focus on my goal to complete the work so my husband could see the beauty of our new, completed room.  I refused to give up, endured the short suffering and carried the dresser.  I heard my mom say when we were young, "Pain is beauty."  Well, pain resulted from that event, but our room looks beautiful.

"Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.  For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it." (Matthew 16:23-25)

I recently read in Kyle Idleman's book, "not a fan", about carrying our cross.  Following Jesus will bring pain and suffering to our flesh as we deny ourself, give all to God and follow Him daily.  Kyle describes how carrying a cross cannot be comfortable, no matter the position.  He says, "If there is no sacrifice involved, if you're not at least a little uncomfortable, then there is a good chance that you aren't carrying a cross."

Followers of God no longer know comfort.  They work daily for Him and to further His Kingdom.  In this, a follower must give their whole being to God daily.  The flesh no longer can receive pleasure.  God is serious when He delegates your purpose for your life.  He brought you to life for a reason.  Denying oneself daily will bring pain and suffering; confrontation and rejection from this world; loss of control and constant stretching of faith.  Forget your own pleasures, but focus on the prize of Eternal life with our God.

I have soreness from carrying that awkward, heavy load that night.  But, the beauty of our room is worth this temporary pain.  Our lives will bring beauty when we deny ourselves daily and carry our awkward, heavy crosses.  We will be stretched, broken and hurt in the flesh;  but the beauty we will see in Heaven and the words spoken as we enter, "Well done, good and faithful servant," are worth it!  Followers of God live each moment for Him.  God shines through His followers in every circumstance and provides strength when carrying their cross for Him.

What cross must you carry as a follower?
Mine include: eating properly, sacrificing for others, avoiding alcohol, throwing my "me" box away for my marriage and kids.  Also, carrying my cross has cost me friendships, pleasures in life and MY itinerary for the day.  I have received ridicule and crazy looks.

These things are the least I can do to return the love our God shines on me.  I surrender my soul to Him.  He gave His only Son to die for me and wash away all my sins.  Will you choose to follow Him and complete His purpose for your life?  The pain and suffering is temporary and builds faith, strength and hope for the coming of our God.  Jesus carried the cross up to die and give His life to His Father.  Will you take up your cross and die today for your Father?  Though, it may be awkward, uncomfortable and tough; it is all for His Glory.

God, thank you for today.  Reveal my cross, so I may carry it daily for You.  Use me to spread Your Word.  I know You are here and feel Your presence daily.  Thank You for sending Your only Son to die so that I may live for You and die to my sins.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Wherever You May Go; Take Him with You

Use His Word today and apply it to each part of your day. . .

Waking up

"The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue,
to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed." (Isaiah 50:4)

Getting dressed

"Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh." (Romans 13:14)

In your car

"Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs." (Psalm 100:1-2)

At work or school

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (Colossians 3:23-24)

At home

". . .But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)

When you lay your head down at night

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." (Luke 18:1)

"We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.  Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring." (2 Thessalonians 1:3-4)

He will never leave you nor forsake you.  So, never leave Him nor forsake Him.  Be with Him always and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your life.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for your Holy Spirit to guide me through each part of my day.  Join me today and let us have a great day together.  I love You.

No Rock like Our God

Holidays may increase the risk of falling for those who struggle with addictions.  The stress, gloomy weather, visiting family seen only once a year, available beverages at parties, food at parties, etc.  The list is endless because we all have a struggle in some area.  The way we handle these trigger situations is what determines the level of risk present for a fall.  I just want to spend time today providing some words of encouragement.  I gather quotes and information from books that bring Truth into my life.  I will share a few today that may help those reading this when triggers surround your day. . .

"When circumstances overwhelm and seem too much to bear, depend upon the Lord for strength and trust in His tender care."  ~Sper

"We must sacrifice our way to find His way!  We must sacrifice self-will to have God's will."  ~Joyce Meyer

'People say, "I feel I am between a rock and a hard place."  Those who don't know Jesus are being honest when they say this; they ARE between a hard place and a hard place.  BUT  For those who are in relationship and fellowship with the Lord, they are between The Rock (Jesus) and a hard place.'  ~Joyce Meyer

"Value the constant approval of God over the conditional approval of men."
~excerpt from Search for Significance

Remember, you are a child of God and no matter what trial, stress, trigger or season in life; He is right there to lift you up.  He loves you and His Way always works.  He will provide the strength to overcome any bondage and combat those lies Satan tries to place in your thoughts.

Seek approval from Him.  Fear the Lord and obey His commands.  When pressure in life caves in on you, use Our Rock to break through and come out stronger.  Give Him your struggle, anxiety and bondage.  Enjoy the life He provides each day.  Don't let an addiction creep back in because of outside influences and circumstances.  Those addictions only get in the way of His purpose for your life.  Hang in there, He will see you through.

  "There is no one holy like the LORD;
   there is no one besides you;
there is no Rock like our God." (1 Samuel 2:2)

"being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience," (Colossians 1:11)

"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."
(Galatians 1:10)

Be a servant to Him, not this world!  Replace addiction with Him; lies with Truth.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for loving me through all seasons of life.  Continue to lead me in Your Ways.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Acknowledge His Work

I decided to visit our local gym to work out a little before going home.  I stepped upon the machine and began my workout.  A small scale sat next to a desk for anybody to use.  I do not own a scale and do not weigh myself due to past struggles.  The scale and I do not get along very well.  The silly little machine tries to define me as a number.  Satan plays in my thoughts upon seeing a number and speaks lies to me.

On this particular day, my mind wanted to see a number.  The holiday season brought much food and sweets into our home.  Someone had to eat them, right?  Well, I just wanted to check and see what number I had become.  I began to complete my workout and planned to step on the scale.  Then it happened. . .

God sent an angel to me.  The angel came in the form of a lovely young man.  This boy faced trials beyond anyone's imagination in the past years.  He experienced and injury that flipped his life upside down.  His mind and body suffered, but his faith did not.  His love for God's children exceeds anyone I know.  He works at this facility and was simply reporting for duty.  I am sure he never knew that this day he would touch another's life so much.

He came and sat down in the chair by the desk, which blocked me from using the scale.  He began a conversation with me that I will never forget. . .

" He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.  Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.  Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you." (1 Thessalonians 5:10-11)

My angel spoke words of kindness to me.  This boy shone brightly for God.  He said I was beautiful, young and pointed me to God's Truth.  Although he did not realize the work that God called upon him, he completed it perfectly.  He placed a block between me and Satan's tool to lie to me, the scale.  So, instead of a number defining me, God spoke through my angel to tell me Truth.  Thank You God for this angel.

I enjoyed the conversation and left with a smile.  Now, I want to pass this on so we can learn from my angel to build another up with Truth.  Do not hesitate.  We may not see the results or growth that our words provide.  As we continue to be God's hands and feet, He will bless us and others to defeat the lies all around us planted by Satan.

Will you be an angel today?  Seek God to see where He leads and who He places in your path.

God, thank you for sending me Truth yesterday.  I know I am not a number, but I am Your child.  You made me beautiful and to love all created.  Thank You so much.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Whose Party is it Really?

Holiday seasons bring many parties, lots of food and gifts.  Anxieties arise when mentioning all this hustle and bustle.  Not to mention the fact of the struggles many have with all that food around, lacking money to buy as good of gift as you will receive and facing the relative who hurt you so deeply.

How can we enjoy this season and not endure the season?

"This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 1:18)

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” (Mark 9:50)

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.   For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you." (Romans 12:2-3)

Remember the reason.  Spread the Good News to all you meet.  Humble yourselves and release the bitterness you hold against another.  Relax and enjoy the company and the love which fills the room of the party you attend.  Do not focus on the foods or gifts, but on the presence of God's children.  Shine His light in the room.  Eliminate the darkness.  Some families celebrate differently this year due to divorce, loss of loved one, illness or a deployed soldier.  It will be tough with such a change, but remain focused on God and cling to Him for peace and comfort.

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

I read a church sign once that said, "How would you feel if we celebrated your birthday without you this year?"  Makes you really think about the focus of your family's party this time of year, huh?  It is not who buys the better gift, has the best job this year, made the best food or who hurt you and how to get them back.  The celebration is not about a buffet of goodies, stockings filled to the brim, candy canes, decorated trees, an old fella dressed in a red suit or a mistletoe hung in the doorway.  It is not even about those little snack cakes shaped like trees that are like the best food ever created!  The season is all about that one decoration which sometimes gets lost in all the lights; The Nativity Scene!  A young woman filled with the Holy Spirit became pregnant with the Messiah.  He was born to save, teach, heal, lead, love, set the example and fulfills His Father's purpose.

As we celebrate this year, let us remember His example.  Eliminate bitterness, jealousy, bondage and anxiety from the gatherings.  Bring the light of Jesus and invite Him to His own birthday party!

God, thank you for another day of life.  Bring peace to our lives this busy time of year.  Keep our focus on You and Your Son.  Thank You for His birth.  Join us as we remember and celebrate His life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Give Him Your Heart, Mind and Soul

I begin talking to my husband about my day and ask a few questions.  No response.  Football blairs from the TV.  He does not listen.
All I wanted to do was talk and spend some time with my loved one.

I tell my son to come help me finish supper and set the table with silverware and napkins.  He plays intensely at his Lego table is in the middle of building a huge castle.  He is not coming to help.
All I wanted was some companionship and help with my work.

I ask my daughter to go sit by the door so I can put her shoes on for her to go outside.  She refuses my help and claims she can do this on her own.
All I wanted to do was teach, lead and help.

I have been sick for days without any hope of healing.  My doctor knocks at the door with a cure in hand.  I don't even look out the window or think about answering.  It is useless, I am beyond help.
All my doctor wanted was to heal.

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts." (Deuteronomy 6:5-6)

God begins talking to you and asking you some questions about how you are leading your life.  He asks you to join Him on Sunday and attend church.  He asks you to read with Him about Truth and learn more about who Created you.  Well, Sunday is your only day to rest, a big football game is on TV and you really do not like to read.
All He wanted was to talk and spend some time with His loved one.

The church holds a food and coat drive and then goes to distribute these items to the less fortunate.  God tells you to join them in this work to further His Kingdom.  You are in the middle of finishing the basement on your brand new home and the work is intense.
All He wanted was some companionship and help with His work.

When trouble times come your way, pride comes in the way of asking for help.  You can do this and no one needs to show you how to fix the problem.  There is no way you will ask for assistance.  God stands right there with an open hand to offer peace, comfort and solutions.  He knows which way to go and what it takes to get you through.  You refuse the offer.
All He wanted was to help, teach and lead.

Sickness comes, addiction consumes your life, the doctor found cancer or life just feels too tough to handle.  God knocks at the door, waiting to cure your troubles, ailments and bondage.  He offers the perfect antidote in a nicely printed form - the Bible.  Will you answer the door?  Will you accept His Word to begin healing, coping and finding comfort?
All He wants is to heal.

It hurts when others ignore us, refuse to spend time with us or deny help.  Our hearts break as we watch a loved one suffer or allow pride to rule their lives.  We may feel rejected or worthless when loved ones choose another person or thing to occupy their time.  All we want is attention, time and love.

God feels the same every time we refuse to listen, call upon someone else or ignore His commands.  He just wants our attention, time and love.  He yearns for your trust and faith in Him.  He wants a relationship with you.  He gave His only Son to die for us and display His love to us.  Can we not give back by loving Him wholeheartedly and gaining a relationship with the One who sacrificed everything for us to live and breathe each day?  What takes your attention away from God?  Rid yourselves of any distraction, any device, any work and all pride that keeps a wedge between you and God.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for loving me so much and desiring a relationship with me.  Please show me any distraction or thing in my life that keeps me from You.  I want to cling to You in every move I make.  Thank You for listening to me, teaching me, being my Father and bringing healing to my life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Our Opponent will not Claim Victory

Indiana University suffered in basketball for a few years.  Times were challenging and wins were less than desired.  Some fans remained strong and believed in their team.  While others moved on, gave up on the team or just quit caring.  Hope fizzled.

Well, 2011 has become a turnaround year for the Hoosiers.  The most challenging game, the opponent being University of Kentucky (ranked #1), occurred and Assembly Hall reached capacity.  Red shirts filled the seats; with a few blue here and there.  The fans came to see a win.  The newer coaching staff and players brought a glimmer of hope in the hearts of many.

The beginning looked grim for the Hoosiers.  But, just before halftime, they came back with a vengeance.  The second half displayed great basketball with the score remaining close.  Down to the last seconds of the game, the scored continued to rise, keeping a one point difference.

Nine seconds left, IU trailing by two in possession of the ball. . .

. . .wide open for a three, the player makes it to win the game.  Fans rush to the floor and celebrate.  The coach takes a deep breath, stands in awe of the support from fans and digests the whole thing.  He is amazed at the progress IU basketball accomplished.  The school experienced trials, faced troubles and felt hopeless; but now rejoicing and joy is all they could feel.  They did it!  They pulled off the win, by perseverance, listening to the coach, giving 100% skill and believing in their hearts that winning is possible.

Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:26-27)

"Lord, by such things people live;
and my spirit finds life in them too.
You restored me to health
and let me live." (Isaiah 38:16)

Well, my friends, though trials and suffering may consume your life; God never leaves nor forsakes you.  He remains strong and believes in your salvation.  Even if loved ones around you have given up all hope in you, quit caring about your happiness or moved on to someone else; you are not forgotten.  You will not be counted lost.

Take today and turn it around.  Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and move forward with Him as Coach.  The most challenging battle, the opponent being Satan, occurs daily.  Without listening to right Coach, persevering, giving 100% faith and believing that God will provide strength; the battle will be greater and the spiritual battle lost.  Take a stand and do not allow Satan to win.

There will be times when you face the final seconds of decision making.  Listen closely, take a time-out with Coach if needed and follow His path to victory.  With each decision made for Christ, with each follower added in number; the angels rejoice and sing joyously.  God and the angels never lose hope in you.  People in this world may disappoint or give up on you, but God will not.  Through Him all things are possible.  With His strength a person's life can turn from suffering, destruction, faithless, distrusting to joy, peace, believing and trusting in our Creator.  Our enemy is defeated and will never come into the hearts coached by God and claim victory.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for coaching me to victory.  Thank You for the strength given each day and the comfort through tough times.  I am here to carry out Your plan for my life.  Use me to further Your kingdom.  Use me to encourage others, no matter their past, to seek You for salvation and guidance.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Angels Come in Many Forms

I will not forget my first and third grade teacher (same one both years) who showed me more than just how to add 2+2.  She taught me how to care, to be kind and to be a friend.  She extended a hand of friendship to me when I knew no one else and did not know how to meet others.

I will not forget the first little girl who came up to me and asked if I would like to be her friend.  The teacher above led us to each other.  It was overwhelming moving to a new town and beginning a new school with unknown faces.  She did not ignore me or oust me because I was the new girl.  She became more than just a fellow student.

I will not forget my basketball coach who taught me more than just how to shoot a foul shot.  He cared about my life and provided an ear when I needed to talk.  He would crank up the radio to the silliest of songs that my teammates and I brought along for the trip to our game.  He displayed a great example of good morals.  He did not criticize or berate us when we lost.  He taught and guided us to learn from the mistakes made.

I will not forget the man who led my college Bible study.  He provided a living room, warm food, Truth to give some hope and invited me to his church.  He gave me material to read to help me gain a few steps out of my pit.  He cared when I felt I had no one.  God shined through this man to spread comfort and love.

People in our lives create a lasting impression and we must remember the good things learned from each experience.  God places leaders in our lives to help us through every season.  We must keep our eyes open to the ones He does send.

"Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:7-8)

"For he will command his angels concerning you
   to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." (Psalm 91:11-12)

Angels come in many forms.  God has provided more than I can list for me through every rough time, painful season and destructive trial in my life.  God uses others as vessels to guide you and love you.  Reach up to Him and He will lead you to His children.  His word remains the same today, tomorrow and forever.  There is a consistency which should run through all of us by following the Truth found in His Word.  Seek leaders to learn how to carry out His Word.  Trust in Him to provide angels to watch over you.  He will protect you and work through those with 'skin on'.

I will not forget the many who fed me with Truth when I knew nothing but bondage.  I did not realize another option existed in life other than comfort through anorexia, alcohol, drugs or cigarettes.  I felt I must strive for perfection always.  I ran when trouble or trial appeared.  But, thanks to all the angels God sent, I now see Him.  I know His Truth.  I do not run and hide from trial or trouble; but, I remember the Truth shared and the example set by the loving angels in my life.  I am comforted by reaching up and crying out to Him.  The only way to get through is with the strength He provides.  Trials are tough, but He is greater than anything this world may bring.

Some of my angels, I do not see in my every day life anymore; but, I have not forgotten them.  They have moved forward to touch other's lives.  God found a need for them to help another.  I can imitate what I learned from my angels and spread Truth to the ones I see in need.  God directs my path and always reminds me to provide comfort to those starving spiritually as He comforted me.

Remember your angels today and thank God for each one!

God, I thank you for this day.  I thank You for placing people in my life to keep me focused on You and to fill me with Truth when I feel empty.  Thank You for watching over me, loving me, comforting me and answering prayers through Your children.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

He Sees Value

A book is purchased for pleasure, school, work or church.  The owner flips through the pages, accidentally tears a page, gets a tiny piece of food on one page, writes a few notes here and there, reads the final page and then sits it on the shelf for a couple months.  One day, the owner decides to sell it back and gain a little bit of money from this dust collector.  Guess what?  Due to the use and length of ownership, stores or individuals would be hesitant to even pay half of original price.

A pair of jeans comes off the shelf and into an individual's closet.  The jeans get worn a bit, washed a few times and maybe even a rip forms in one knee.  One day, the size of the jeans is a smidgen too small.  Guess what?  Due to the use and length of ownership, consignment shops or individuals would pass on any price greater than a fourth of original price.

When purchasing a car, the minute it drives off the lot, value decreases.  The buyer not only just went into debt on a vehicle, but is also losing money each time the wheels turn and the odometer clicks.  The buyer works hard every day to try and pay the debt off.  One day, an accident occurs and the car is mangled (the owner is fine).  Guess what?  The value of the car just dropped to nothing.  Next stop for the vehicle - the junkyard, where a few spare parts MAY be used in the future.

"One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.  The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them." (Romans 14:2-3)

"God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.  He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith." (Acts 15:8-9)

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace " (Ephesians 1:7)

If you look closely at the three items listed in the beginning, there is value.  The tear in the book can be taped, the food wiped off clean and the notes written might even help the next owner in their study or reading.  The book will look like new again.  The jeans will fit nicely on another person, washing numerous times eliminates the stiff feel of 'new' jeans and nowadays rips in jeans are 'cool'.  The jeans will bless a new owner.  The vehicle is treasure to a repairman.  Pieces of the vehicle may be used to brighten up another one or possibly be restored to new.  Insurance will pay the debt and the owner can move forward to begin anew.

We may feel like an old book, used jeans or a destroyed car.  Our past may look torn, stained, used, unworthy, invaluable or beyond repair.  Guess what?  God looks at the heart, accepts all who call upon and believe in Him, washes away all sin, forgives and restores.  You need not try and work for redemption.  The debt has been paid by His only Son through death.  His light will shine through you and make you new again.  He will use your stories to bless others and further His Kingdom.  Through Him, you are remade.  You are His child and you are valuable.  There is a plan and purpose for your life, no matter where you have been.  Choose Him today, accept Him into your life and begin anew!

God, thank you for another day to serve You.  Thank You for taking this torn, used, stained and destroyed girl and restoring life.  I thank You for loving me and purifying my heart and soul to follow You and fulfill the plan for my life.  Shine through me and send Your Holy Spirit to provide guidance.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Do You Believe?

While I watch the movie, Polar Express, I think much too deep into the progress a few of the children made concerning the belief in Santa Claus.

A train arrives in each child's yard to pick them up for a journey to the North Pole.  At first, two boys refuse the ride, but decide to board.  One boy, Billy, sits in a car all by his lonesome.  The Hero boy and girl, which names are not mentioned, go to Billy and extend a hand of friendship.  As they settle in their seats, the Hero boy asks in a doubting voice to the girl, "Are we really going to the North Pole?"  She boldly confirms that this train leads to the North Pole with an excited smile.

The train encounters many obstacles to keep it from fulfilling its purpose.  The children continue to bond as they trust each other and help each other through some rough times on the train.  As the train drew closer to the North Pole, indications reveal the truth about the train's destination.  The Hero boy still finds it hard to believe, though evidence appears directly in front of his eyes.

Upon arrival, Billy remains in the train.  The girl and boy run to the car to coax him off.  He says, "Christmas just doesn't work for me."  He claims he tried it a few different years, but it just didn't go as he planned.  The car derails and sends them on a ride that will change each of the boy's hearts.  They visit the elves workshop, the gift wrapping and end up in Santa's bag.  The Hero boy could not hear the way to go or the bells ringing loudly from the reindeer.  The girl could hear and she boldly led the way for the boys.  As the kids gathered around, waiting for Santa, a bell flew from the reindeer and Hero boy picked it up.  He dug deep in his heart and said, "I believe."  He spoke these words numerous times and finally heard the bell ring beautifully.  He actually shocked himself when saying it out loud.

SO, what can we take from this journey of three little children on Christmas Eve?

“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
(Mark 9:23-24)

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Isn't it just like us to desire evidence before believing and trusting?  In the movie, the kids lacking belief will not receive a gift from Santa and miss out on Christmas morning.  The gift I now speak of requires belief as well.  Believing in our Creator brings the greatest gift, Eternal life.  God provides this gift freely to those who trust and believe in Him.  Without the belief, without Him active in your life, you miss out on so much more than one morning of gift receiving.  You miss out on a life filled with joy, peace, comfort, love, completed with Eternal life in Heaven.

On your journey there may be obstacles to steer you off the path.  Refuse to let those stop you from fulfilling your purpose.  Focus on the Truth and pray to Him for help to overcome any unbelief about your destination.  Speak boldly for Him so others will follow your lead.  Don't try a few times and give up when times get tough or when plans differ from what YOU expected.

The children in the movie received a ticket and in the end the conductor punched words on the ticket with a hole puncher (describing what the child needed to do).  The tickets included; Believe, Learn, Depend on, Count on, Lean on, and Lead.  These words are perfect for our walk with God.  Believe in Him, learn about Him, depend on Him, count on Him, lean always on Him and then lead others to Him.
What would your ticket say today?

God, thank you for another day.  I believe in You and thank You for all the blessings provided in my life.  Thank You for always being there for me.  Use me to spread Your good News to all I meet.  Give me the words to speak boldly on Your behalf.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

He Keeps the Light Shining Bright

In the playroom for the children, there is a window that faces our carport/garage.  My husband installed a light inside to help see at all times.  While playing one day, the blinds were knocked down (sad to say, I am the culprit of this accident).  Without the light on, the place remains extremely dark, even during the daytime.  The playroom had some sunlight coming in from the window facing our front yard.  My daughter peered in the carport/garage and had a difficult time seeing any objects.  The light from our room caused only a reflection of her to appear on the window.  Without light, we could not see clearly what sat on the shelves, the mower taking up space in the middle or the apparatus holding the tools up against the wall.  If someone were on the other side of the window, they could clearly see us, for our room had the greater light.

Without light, it is difficult to see clearly; yet easier to hide.

"Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains." (Psalm 107:13-14

"He reveals the deep things of darkness
and brings utter darkness into the light." (Job 12:22)

Without shining His light inside us, we remain in darkness.  We hide in ourselves and place a mask on to appear 'all together'.  We turn off the light inside to allow no one to look into what sits on our heart, the thoughts taking up space in our mind or the bondage our enemy holds on us.  Misery takes hold of us as we reside in this darkness.  We must reach for the Him who is light!

Come out from the darkness by letting the masks down and reaching up to Him to reveal what causes you to stay in the dark.  As your heart softens and you allow others a peak inside, they too will let go of some darkness they experience.  By shining His light, revealing our weakness, we can help others.  Our darkness will become light for all to see.  Give Him that dark place in your heart.  Allow Him to come in and bring light to your "carport/garage".   Praise Him who hears your cries and answers with shining light, breaking away the darkness.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for shining light on yet another day here to serve You.  Continue to clear up any darkness in my life.  Keep me safe in the light so I may not run back to my dark corner and turn the light off to hide.  The life of hiding is gone.  I am no longer running to those corners of darkness, but running to Your arms full of light.  Thank You for holding me and comforting me always.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
