Leave the Masks for Halloween

Today is Halloween; a night filled with scary faces, sugar filled bellies and creative decorations.  You will see today that our true identity can be covered with a mask, a costume and/or face paint.  Blonde hair changes to blue, smooth young faces change to wrinkled and old, little girls transform to beautiful princesses, little boys transform to their favorite superhero and even animals put on a costume to stroll the neighborhood.

Today is Halloween; a night when masks are accepted, costumes are desired and hiding your true self is the intent.  We run around the neighborhood seeking others to give candy to us as we hide our identity.  People compliment our creativity in costume choice.  They comment on the beauty of the little princesses, the muscles of the superheroes and pretend to be scared of the darker costumes.

Today is Halloween; a night every child becomes excited.  They receive bags full of sugar.  We do not buy much candy at our house, so my children love the idea of getting so much and having it on hand at the house.  My son loves to dress up and play the part of his character.  My daughter, on the other hand, counts down the minutes until she can take her costume off.  She is only in it for the sweets.  She would rather just be Brooklyn.

"On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.  You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.  We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority." (1 Thessalonians 2:4-6)

"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."
(Galatians 1:10)

I believe my daughter sets the best example.  She just wants to be Brooklyn.  She chooses not to hide behind a mask, put on a costume to be somebody else or cover her beautiful face in makeup to create a new look.

Sometimes, as Christians, we place our mask on before leaving our home.  We cover ourselves in makeup and dress to impress.  We may choose to swim in debt just to drive the best vehicle in the lot.  We purchase the latest and greatest electronics or possessions to "fit in" with society.

What do these actions and thoughts do to our soul?

God created us in His image to carry out a specific plan.  His plan and purpose for each of us coincides with His Will.  He created our innermost being just as He thought perfect.  Why would we want to change any part of it?  Well, I can tell you my answer.  I placed on many masks all through life.  The home I grew up in required an image of perfection and for all to see us as the "Cleaver's".  So, as I left the house, I put my costume on just so and created a mask with a constant smile.  Outwardly all looked well, inwardly destruction continued.

You see, God does not intend for us to win approval from this world.  We are servants of our Creator and need only to please Him.  He entrusts us with the Gospel and delegates specific tasks for each of His Children.  We all play a role to further His Kingdom.  Take off the masks and walk forward shining His light for all to see.  As a kid, receiving candy felt like the best gift ever.  As a Christian, you see His blessings are the best gifts ever.  Travel through your day, around your neighborhood or towns, from friend to friend and to all you meet, share what you know about Him.  Reveal who God made you to be and share witness.  Our messy lives may not appear acceptable in society; but, stand firm on His Word and turn your mess into your ministry.  Leave the masks for Halloween.

Today may be Halloween; But, EVERY day is His day.  Be excited to serve Him and praise Him for your blessings!

God, thank you for another day to serve you.  I have burned my masks, destroyed my costumes and trashed my makeup.  I am here to serve wholeheartedly and be the Sheree You intended when You breathed life into my soul.  I am here to use my mess and minister to anyone You intend.  Take my past and use it to further Your Kingdom.  Where You lead me, I will go.  I will follow You!  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

The Perfect Meal Plan

With the holidays just around the corner, invitations appear in the mail to parties, gatherings, dinners and festivities.  All, I am sure, will be filled with food, candy and drinks.  It seems our stomach becomes an empty reservoir when seeing all these tasty items.  Suddenly, starvation hits and our eyes believe two plates just do not satisfy.

My eyes performed this trick on me the other night.  I approached the buffet and every dish beckoned my name.  I filled my plate and then grabbed a bowl of chili as well.  Upon finishing the food in front of me, I felt full.  But, I nibbled off my children's plate and grabbed a few more chips from the buffet.  Luckily, our stomachs can stretch as we shove them full of food.

Even though the food sits in front of us, does not mean all of it will nourish our bodies or our bodies need it currently.  Discipline helps determine what foods best fit your daily intake.  Some people acquire allergies and must be careful not to eat the wrong thing.  Others may suffer from diabetes and monitor the intake of sugars.  And others still, just need to eat for nourishment and enjoy the taste but not display gluttony.  Discerning just the right answer may be difficult.  Give your meal plan to God!!!

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority." (Colossians 2:9-10)

"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them." (Matthew 6:31-32)

God knows what we need before asking.  Look around!  He created all things, living and nonliving, to satisfy our needs.  He not only fills us spiritually with Truth, but takes care of our physical hunger as well.  In Him, our lives fill completely.

Turn to Him for answers in every area.  There will be many attractive "buffets" in life.  The display of various fillers for your soul may be enticing; but do not fall victim to gobbling up everything presented to you.  You may be consuming unhealthy, useless things of this world.  We must visit the throne, not the buffets of this world.

God will reveal exactly the right choices to fill our plates.  It may require a change, greater attention to an area in life or staying just as you are for a while.  Just as our diets change due to allergies, need for weight loss or gain, specific diseases or sickness strikes; our spiritual nourishment may require some tweaking from time to time.  Do not neglect your spirit.  Spend time in the Truth DAILY!  Without the Holy Spirit active in your life, discernment and health fade away.

Seek Him every day and you will be completely full!  Let Him have your plate!

God, thank you for another day to serve you.  Thank You for feeding me spiritually and physically.  I give my meal plan completely to You.  Bring Your Holy Spirit in me to help discern between right and wrong nourishment.  I cling to Truth for guidance and seek Your answers.  Thank You for providing complete fullness of life and loving me along the way always.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

To Him be the Glory and Power Forever!

Casting Crowns, a Christian band, has a song out called, "Glorious Day."  Yesterday I meditated on the chorus.  Each line specifically describes the result of each event Jesus went through for us.  I believe we must remember every day the why of God sending His only Son and Him dying on the cross.

Living among us, He loved.
Jesus dwelt among men to teach, love, guide and heal.  He developed a team of disciples to extend His teaching.  While here on Earth, Jesus experienced all the temptations we do in our daily lives.  Yet, He did not sin.  He felt much rejection and disbelief, but continued on as His Father asked.

Dying on the cross, He saved.
He endured painful blows, beating after beating, flogging, spitting and terrible words thrown at Him.  Yet, He continued with the cross on His back to face death for all us sinners.  They nailed His hands and feet and placed the cross in the ground for His body to dangle and die.  He did not complain one word.  He simply said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."  Wow, He died for each of us.  He loved us so much to take away all our sins.  He washed us clean.

Buried in the grave, He carried our sins FAR away.
As they buried Him in the grave, our sins went with Him.  He created a life full of God's forgiveness.  Today, we don't receive punishment such as before His death for our sins.  Yet, when we sin, the Holy Spirit does pull at our hearts and we feel the wrong in our decision.  We repent and change direction.  Thanks to Jesus obeying His Father, we are forgiven and set free of the heavy burden of sin.  We now receive righteousness, peace and joy.  The Holy Spirit guides us to the right path, moving us to spiritual maturity and releasing the blessings on our life which God planned.

Rising to His Father, He justified.
He rose and freed us from responsibility to fight our daily battles.  Our purpose here became clear; to spread the Truth fed from the Holy Spirit and obey the commands of God.  We need not worry about today's troubles, tomorrow's trials or next week's issues; He took those burdens upon Himself.  He sits up in Heaven to intercede our prayers.  At times we feel so overwhelmed, we do not even know what words to speak to God.  Jesus takes our concerns in our heart and tells His Father.  Lay it all at the cross; He will take care of you.

Take some time to meditate on everything Jesus went through for you and me.  He loved us so much and never gave up on what His Father asked of Him.  He did not grumble, argue, say no, or procrastinate.  He obeyed.  We must follow His example.  Turn our complaints to prayer and asked God for the strength and courage to obey the task laid before us.  God holds plans to prosper us, not to harm.  The enemy prowls around waiting to devour and steal your joy.  Take a stand on the Truth you know and believe all Jesus did for you.  Take Jesus as your Lord and Savior and begin living in peace, joy and righteousness.  Listen to the prompting from the Holy Spirit should your feet get a bit off track.

You are so precious to Him.  He will not leave nor forsake.  His love endures forever and never changes.  You can count on Him always.  Allow Him into your life and enjoy the comfort He brings to every situation.

"and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen." (Revelation 1:5-6)

God, thank you for another day to serve you.  Thank You for sending Jesus to love, save, to carry my sins away and to justify.  Keep my focus on Your Holy Spirit's guidance for every step taken.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Empty Out the Resentment Box

There are times in life when words hurt, people disappoint, anger builds and resentment lingers.  Unfortunately, marriages end, friendships sever or children quit speaking to their parents.  These powerful emotions take over our thoughts and destroy our chance for restoration.  We then search elsewhere for happiness or peace.  Some turn to a bottle, drugs, other relationships, illegal activities or other addictions just to get their minds off the hurt and resentment.

You have heard the saying, 'The grass is always greener on the other side.'  Well, if we venture over to that 'greener' grass, in due time I bet you will find some dead spots in it as well.

"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,  then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,  not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:1-5)

God never leaves us nor forsakes.  We continually sin and fall short of the glory of God; yet, He is not keeping score or building a resentment box to visit every time we step out of line with His plan.  He forgives always, loves wholeheartedly and yearns for a relationship with you.  None of His children grow 'greener grass' than the other.  Yet, all are created to shine for Him.  We must obey and follow Him to be filled with nourishment.  It is then, we will display His goodness, love and truly see how to forgive.  Be Christ-like.

What does grass need to be green?  It requires fertilization and water.  Well, don't neglect to water and fertilize your own relationships and daily life.  Without the Living Water and Truths provided from God, deadened spots appear and steal nourishment from other areas in your life.  Take a stand on Truth and have the same mindset as Christ.  Intentionally take the hindered relationship and negative words and replace with good things.  List the positive things about your spouse, family and friends every day so to outweigh any resentment from past hurt.  In order to build a relationship, we must love one another, flaws and all!  Don't give up.  Be thankful for all the people God's places in your life.  Empty out the resentment box.  Give it to God.  He will heal!

God, thank you for today.  Thank You for opening my eyes throughout my life to empty all my resentment boxes created by hurtful situations.  Place a lock on my empty resentment box to never be opened or filled again.  Help me to work through hurt emotions as they come and not keep a running score to build up anger.  Wash clean the slate and fill it with positive thoughts and an understanding mind.  Thank You for loving me unconditionally and creating me for Your purpose.  I love You.

Overload

My son missed a day of school, so he brought home all the make-up work.  The pile was a pretty good size for a seven year old to complete.  He sat down after school and began to answer each question/equation.  He grew weary and called out to me for answers so he could get up and play.

Later, he came to me with a tough question.  I helped him by challenging his thoughts to come up with the correct answer.  He knew the answers, but was just not sure how to get there.  This page was his last and he said he could not think anymore.  His brain activity reached capacity for the day.  He experienced brain overload!

"My soul is weary with sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word.
Keep me from deceitful ways;
be gracious to me and teach me your law." (Psalm 119:28-29)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:28-29)

Do you ever grow tired and weary?  Tired of being physically sick, working overtime, endless cleaning in your home or studying a new concept.  Weary of pain, constant emotional struggles, sadness or continued condemnation.  Our mind, soul and body must receive rest.  Should we wear ourselves too thin, our efforts and actions may become deficient.  Mind and soul overload may creep up on our lives.  Seek God to be in tune with the required rest for yourself.

My son could not think straight due to working his mind too much.  He needed a break from learning and thinking to just be.  God asks us to obey His commands and complete the tasks laid before us.  He also asks us to rest.  He will refuel your soul with His Truth.  This process is much needed to provide tools to continue on His Way.  Take a break and refuel.  Nourish your spirit with Truth, faith and belief in His promises.  Pause and wait for His timing to continue.

"I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope." (Psalm 130:5)

God, thank you for another day to serve you.  Bring rest to my body, soul and mind.  Feed me with Truth, guide my every step and lead me to Your Will.  I leave all my burdens, sorrows and pain at the cross.  Take them and use them to strengthen my walk with You.  I thank You for all given to me so I may be purified through and through.  Thank You for loving me unconditionally.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

As For Me and My House. . .

After picking up some fast food on our journey home from vacation, our travel went from straight interstate to a bit country with a few curves.  My children devoured their supper and onward we traveled.  About 20 minutes down the road, I gaze back at my son.  His face looks pale and his eyes look grim.  I quickly asked if all was okay back there.  He assured me that he was not going to get sick.  My parental instinct knew different, so I searched for a bag of some sort.

Well, it happened!  He looked and felt much better afterwards.  The poor guy did not have the best of ending to our vacation.

In times such as these, our parental instincts kick in and any thoughts of our own comfort or peace escape quickly.  We drop everything and run to the side of our children.  The same reaction may occur when they fall at a playground, venture off in a store or anytime a need must be met immediately.  Every parent experiences many instances of running to the rescue.

But, what about giving attention?  What about making memories?  What about our children's emotional and spiritual health?  Do we drop everything to fulfill these needs?

"And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17)

"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

". . . But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

God blessed parents with children to raise and teach of His Truth.  In this world, our everyday itinerary may take power over the time we spend with our children.  The thoughts of bills adding up, work to be complete and appointments to keep steal the joy we could have with our children.  I catch myself too often saying, "In a minute; I am too old to play that game; or we need to get going."  Parenting is one of the hardest assignments from God.  These little people rely on us to provide care, love, discipline and also to HAVE FUN!

Venture out of the parental "me" box and promote yourself from mediocre to extraordinary.  Your children will benefit from the attention, time and memories made.  Also, this allows for parents to guide and clarify any concerns/questions while engaging in a conversation.  Use His Truths to lead them and teach them to turn to Him.  It is much better for children to receive attention from us than from this world.

So, let the housework go, let the laundry slide for a few hours, mow the lawn later and take time to enjoy parenting.  These tasks must be done at some point and I do not suggest never taking care of your home, work or vehicles; but, check your priority list.  Push the children up the list and be a kid again yourself.  Go down that slide, play tag, read a book, build a fort or just enjoy a stroll down the street.  Not only will this benefit the mind, body and soul of your child, but it will also bring joy to your heart.  Seek God for guidance on how to bond closer to your children and really engage in their lives.  He will provide time to complete all other duties!

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for my children.  Open my eyes to the important times spent with them.  Guide my every step to teach, discipline and enjoy my time with them.  Take away my pride and allow me to become a child again to play with my children and give them the attention needed.  I give my "me" box to You and I ask for help to do it right, by placing my children over the temporary pleasures and needs of this world.  I love You.

'Bee a Worker'

Upon visiting an apple orchard with my brother and his family, I learned some interesting facts.  Every orchard must house bees.  The rows of apple trees rely on those bees every spring to aide in growth of the juicy fruit we sink our teeth into.  The little buzzing creatures live in a colony and produce lots of honey.  Some honey is used for human consumption, while the rest fulfills the daily nutritional needs for these bees throughout the winter months.  Come spring, the bees leave their colony and search for apple blossoms among all the trees in the farm.  One feature of bees is hairy legs.  They carry the pollen with their hair from tree to tree.  Any apple blossom not touched by a bee will not produce fruit!

The colony consists of 'worker' bees and the 'queen' bee.  The workers, obviously do all the work, continually produce honey and are the ones to venture out and pollinate the apple blossoms.  Their work produces a harvest of plenty.  They 'listen' to the queen bee's commands and obey her teaching.  The workers learn the specifics on living as a bee in that colony.  They know what is expected and follow to keep harmony and health among the colony.  All work together, not against one another!

"to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming."
 (Ephesians 4:12-14)

"The trees of the LORD are well watered,
the cedars of Lebanon that he planted." (Psalm 104:16)

"but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers." (Psalm 1:2-3)

As you wake each morning, do so with a mindset of a worker for Christ.  Build up your mind, soul and body with His teachings and Truth.  Take all learned and spread the good news to those appearing in your path.  Travel outside your little group of friends and step boldly for God.  He will guide you to those in need of His Truth.  As you plant seed of Truth, God will water and produce a harvest of plenty.  He is the Farmer which watches closely and assures successful growth.

Work together in unity to spread the knowledge of Christ.  Avoid neglect of one another and/or condemnation.  Yet, build each other up and teach His Truth in love, care and concern of one's spiritual health.  Listen to the Father's teaching so to understand each other and bring harmony under His Law.

We can learn from these little insects.  Work together to produce good.  Obey our Father's law and commands for our daily work required.  Seek others in your path to plant seeds.  Sometimes the fruit grown may not be seen by you, but continue to plant and the Farmer will water.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for providing Truth so I may live by it and produce a life full of happiness, peace and joy.  Thank You for instructing me in each decision.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

This Too Shall Pass

While visiting my brother, my family and I stayed up a bit longer than his family one night.  We watched television and enjoyed down time before hitting the sheets.  All of a sudden, we heard hard rain pounding on the house, lightning flashed in the sky, thunder rolled and the wind picked up tremendously.  The change in weather grabbed the attention of my kids and brought fear into their little bodies.  Then, my brother's dog escaped his crate and peeped around the corner for some comfort.  He too was scared and a little shaky.  The fugitive increased the fear in my son (he despises dogs).

I went to put the dog up and my brother came down to reprimand the dog for busting out of the crate.  My family and I ventured upstairs to end the evening.  My son, still scared, try to complete nightly duties (brush teeth, use restroom, etc.).  He found it difficult not to focus on the storm outside.  I told both kids that God allows for storms so the ground can receive some moisture.  God will protect us.  Not sure how consoling this would be to a 7 and 3 year old, but it seemed to calm them a bit.  It is hard for them to grasp the idea that this too shall pass.  As my son lay down he said, "God could have warned us."

"But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:11-12)

"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:5-7)

"The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:15;18)

Once we receive the Spirit, our eyes begin to open.  God comes and meets us wherever we may be and guides us to the path intended for our life.  Accepting Him requires faith, believing in the promises made by Him.  He will protect and guard our hearts.  He remains the same, loves continuously and provides a peace beyond our imagination.

Though this broken world will present trials every day, we must focus on the glory that waits for us.  There will be tough times come our way without any warning.  Cling to Him in the difficult times as well as the joyous times and all works out for His glory.  Storms occur around us, out of our control.  But, like the story of Joseph, intentions may be to harm you; God will bring good out of it and bring all situations in sync with His Will (see Genesis 50:18-20).

As my husband and I comforted our children, God will comfort and see you through anything.  Trust Him and lean not on your understanding.  Use tough times to grow closer to Him and learn even more how to apply His Truth to every situation.  His Word stands true at all times.  Earth needs storms to bring growth and beauty; so does each of our lives.  Remember, this too shall pass!

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for sending Your Son to die for us and wash away our sins.  Though free will can get me in trouble and create storms from time to time, I know I am forgiven.  I come to You and fall in Your arms to heal and learn from my mistakes.  Thank You for comforting, loving and growing my spirit.  May I take everything I learn, apply it to my every day and spread Truth received.  I love You.

Humility, Not Pride

As life continues on, words will be said without thought, from others and even from our own mouth.  Some words can make a lasting impression on our esteem.  Words carelessly said could damage our outlook on ourselves or affect the path we take next.  On the other hand words said with love or invoked by God can create growth in spirit.

I watch my kids argue with one another or defend themselves when being disciplined and more often than not words are thrown around without thought.  Each child feels the need to speak the last word.  Their body languages increase the intensity behind the words.  The thing is my children are 7 and 3.  Their level of maturity cannot grasp the process of filtering words.  Unfortunately, this process is hard to learn and keep in the forefront when emotions arise among relationships in life.

As Thumper says, "If you can't say something nice . . . don't say nothing at all."

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)

"The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered." (Proverbs 17:27)

"May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
   be pleasing in your sight,
LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." (Psalm 19:14)

The words that come from our mouth must be filtered.  Bring your thoughts in sync with God before uttering a sound.  He will guide your speech, actions and thoughts to bring peace, love and understanding among each other.  We need not have the last word.  Change the body language to allow the other person to see care and concern.

Take a stand on His Truth to captivate each thought, restrain from using harsh words or tones and please Him with the meditation of your heart.  If another person fails to live by His Word and throws out careless words towards you; remember His Word reigns true.  Seek Him for healing from any hurt.  Know that His love never fails and you are His child.  He will comfort you as a mother comforts her child.  Avoid any retaliation or need to speak the last word.  Seek to heal, not to win.  Become humble, not proud.

God, thank you for this day.  Filter my words and bring peace.  I often fly off with my emotions and fail to speak with love.  Guide my thoughts and see if any offensive way in me and lead me to Your Truth.  Reveal my negative thinking so I may correct it with Your Truth.  Thank You for loving me always and showing me who You want me to be in life.  I am here, use me in any way to spread Your Truth and help others see You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Listen to Every Word from Him

I receive daily emails from a local Christian radio with one Scripture attached.  I read in a daily devotion when I wake up in the morning.  I will open up my current study and the topic fits perfectly with my current situation.  It amazes me how God speaks so clearly through these means to answer my prayer or guide me in a direction I had been confused on at the time.

"Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him.  For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills;  a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;  a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you." (Deuteronomy 8:5-10)

If I choose to read these in the morning and ignore, I fail to walk in obedience.  If I choose to only read the ones which make me feel good about myself and skip over the life-changing ones, I fail to grow.  God disciplines as well as comforts.  Obeying His command and Words may cause some discomfort to our flesh.  But, His Word and Truth are the only Way to follow.  Being obedient to Him fulfills our purpose in life.

Feed your spirit with His Truth and focus on the messages He has for your life.  At every moment, good or bad, He wants to speak to you.  He wants to have a conversation with you to help, guide and discipline.  Some things in life are tough.  Seek Him for answers, learn and grow with each situation.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for loving me and guiding me each step along my path.  Thank You for taking care of my life and planning out every detail to fit Your plan for me.  Use me every day and in any way to spread Your Truth so others may see the goodness of You.  Thank You for healing every hurt and disciplining every sin.  I love You.

Everlasting Light

Rain and cool winds consumed each day this week.  The weather not only causes me to avoid stepping outside, but also puts a damper on my spirit.  I would rather run back to bed, pull out my current book and slip under the covers for a comfortable afternoon.  AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

Life continues, my daughter still needs my attention, my son must go on to school, my husband must go on to work and I must fulfill my purpose for the day.  Fighting against the enticing thoughts to avoid the day totally behind a good book can become exhausting.  The battle continues through every hour.

'God has delivered me from going down to the pit,
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’ (Job 33:28)

"Let those who love the LORD hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light shines on the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name." (Psalm 97:10-12)

"The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory." (Isaiah 60:19)

So, I took a stand and did not allow darkened days to pull me deep in the pit.  I cranked up the Christian music and rejoiced because God is bigger and brighter than the darkest of days.  Hiding under the covers will only allow Satan a foothold which could lead to a stronghold.  Going through the day battling to stay positive becomes exhausting; allow God to battle.

Life can create whirlwinds of chaos every day.  Each negative blow to our spirit may consume our attitude and outlook.  Satan uses anything he can to destroy our joy and create numerous pits on our path.  But, guess what?  God's light, His Truth and His friendship overpowers any lie brought in by the enemy and cover up any pit.  The battle is His, not ours.  Give it to God.

I have encountered too many times where my foot began to slip in a pit and I would take a peak into the pit to see what is down there.  Sometimes, I even fell in without realizing it because what I saw seemed easier than the battle of going around the pit and continuing on the path set before me.  The pit was dark and gloomy.  I quickly recognized the mistake I made of choosing this decision.  I see no light; how do I get out of here?

Reach your arms up as high as they go, turn your face to God and His light brings you from all darkness surrounding your life.  He is the answer.  God's Word never brings rainy days.  His presence always dispenses light.  Allow God's love to save and keep you out of the pits.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for being light, though storms appear outside.  Thank You for allowing Your Truth to bring from any pit and set my foot right to follow the path for my life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Blessing Directly from Above

In my lifetime, I have visited places, moved a few times and worked at a few different establishments.  Throughout each experience, every day spent in that location, I met some really cool people.  Some came and went, others left a wonderful memory in my thoughts and the rest hold a special place in my heart.  I will not forget nor discount the times when God sent someone with skin on to pull me out of a pit.  I read in a chain email last night of someone's experience helping another and she said sometimes angels are really busy, so God uses regular people to do His work.  Well, I can tell you from experience, I have had plenty of people sent from God to rescue me.  I can also tell you God Himself rescued me more times than I can count.

The people He sent to my rescue will be blessed in return for sure.  Not through a simple thanks from me, but by God.  The greatest blessings come straight from our Creator.  Those blessings may come in tangible items, close friends, a teammate for life or peace in your heart.  At the time, I did not realize the importance of my relationships.  I see now the benefits of following God and acknowledging the work He does through others.

"Praise the LORD, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits— " (Psalm 103:2)

My blessings and benefits list is endless.  I can pull out some rather obvious ones to share though.  My husband is number one.  He came into my life at just the right time (both in high school and now) and stuck by my side through the most difficult of times.  He continues to comfort, love and offer friendship beyond what I ever imagined.  Another blessing is my children.  They provide laughter, joy and a hug or kiss at just the right moments.  Continuing down the list would be my mom.  I cannot explain in words how much I love this woman.  She saved me from many pits, loved me when I felt unlovable and comforted at all times.  My Memaw has done the same as my mom.

Fortunately, I have not experienced any real close friends passing away.  But, I have left some behind due to moving away.  The true friendships have lasted and some rekindled over time.  I just feel so blessed to experience these friendships and know others care to play a part in my life.  I want to share a few quotes from Winnie the Pooh that I just adore:
"If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you."  - I tell this one to my husband and mother from time to time!
"If there ever comes a day when we can't be together keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever." - Though distance may separate, the heart will always find residence for those friends.

Relationships with people here on Earth bring much joy, peace and comfort.  But, the most important, everlasting and required relationship for life is the one with God.  Place Him first and foremost and just celebrate all the loving friendships He brings into your life.  Spread the love received from Him to all you meet so as to plant the seed of Truth in their hearts.  It will be an even greater relationship and joyous time when you meet that individual in Heaven.  Let all your relationships revolve around Him and teach one another His Word!

"If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." (1 John 1:6-7)

"We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."  (1 John 1:3)

Find a way to appreciate a friend, loved one or family member today!

God, thank you for another day here.  Thank You for all the friendships I have, had and will have in this life.  Send me to others who need to hear about You.  I am here to bring as many friends to Heaven as You plan.  Use me every day to spread Truth and love others.  Though I may fail at this from time to time, continue to present opportunities for me to do it right.  Show me where I need improvement and guide me through each lessen needed to learn so I may work wholeheartedly for You.  Thank You for Your friendship and guidance.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

It is Not Always a Stroll in the Park

Mark Merrill, president of Family First, once listed the 7 truths to marriage.  I want to pull out a few of them and elaborate.

#2 - It is not just "for better", it's also "for worse."
This one hits home for me.  With my background, I brought lots of baggage into marriage.  Not only did I bring my anorexia, but also my need to please, perfectionism and low self-esteem.  I cannot imagine the struggles my husband dealt with trying to live with someone of this nature.  Most days, I hated living with myself and weighed on my own nerves.  But, he stuck with me "for worse" and focused on the "for better" times.
Bringing two individuals, each with different characteristics, under one roof to manage a life as one flesh requires effort.  Marriage differs from dating in so many ways.  Some people say "I do" with intent of living just as they did while dating.  WRONG!  When dating, the two may still hold tightly to their "me" boxes and live selfishly.  After the honeymoon, things change dramatically.  The "me" boxes must be left at the door as the groom carries his bride through the threshold to their new home.  Becoming one in flesh requires one new box together containing compromise, love, grace and joy.  Keep focus on the happiness of the other and both come out joyous.  These ideas lead to Mark's truth #6 - It is not about getting from your spouse, it is about giving to your spouse.

#3 - It is not always a stroll in the park; it's a front line battle in the world.
Remember those walks on a fall day when the breeze is light and the sun shining.  The leaves are changing color and bring comfort to the soul.  I feel so calm just imagining the scenario.  On the other hand, think of a rainy, cold day when your car gets a flat on the side of the road.  A gas station sits just one mile back and you must walk there for help.  Your cell phone died 10 minutes after leaving home this morning.  This scenario paints a much different feeling.
Well, marriage can be like either of these mentioned.  One day it is easy, fun and relaxing.  The next day, you want to run so far away because times are too tough.  Outside influences may try and split a marriage.  One partner may be going through the toughest of situations and lacking energy to give to the relationship.  This is when love must conquer.  God created marriage to be a team effort in working for Him.  Together, with Him as the coach, you and your spouse can be victorious.  Don't sit the bench.  Give it 100% effort every day.  If one spouse suffers, the other must take over and carry the load.  Just as on a team, the players on the DL take some time to recover while the other players cover and keep the game running smoothly.  The team does not give up, condemn the injured, blame the injured or ignore the necessary steps for recovery.  No, they listen to the coach, run the plays and continue to aide the injured in healing.  Same goes for marriage.  Be there for each other, focus on God's plan and don't allow chaos in life to give Satan a foothold.  Bond closer in tough times.  These ideas lead to Mark's truth #4 - It is not 50/50 partnership, it's 100/100 give it all you got.

"A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones." (Proverbs 12:4)

"The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife." (1 Corinthians 7:3-4)

"However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." (Ephesians 5:33)

Marriage will be tough.  Satan hates to see success in couples.  If his lies and schemes can tear the two apart, then a whole family and the life God intended will be destroyed.  Stand on the Truth of God, our Coach, and tell Satan to get behind you and your spouse.  Don't allow footholds by sinning against one another.  Instead, embrace one another, love one another and face this world together serving God.  He will bring peace to the marriage and love for one another beyond your imagination.

What can you do today to express thanks to God for providing you a teammate for life?
Find a way today to appreciate your spouse.

God, thank you for another day with my family and my husband.  I cannot express in words how much I appreciate You sending me a teammate.  I enjoy every game encountered in life with him by my side.  You have built up the most perfect spouse for me to face any challenge or struggle.  Thank You for sending him to love me through all the messes in life.  Continue to call out the plays loud and clear to us so we may hear You coaching us and drown out Satan's lies.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

His Light Shines to Burn Away the Fog

One day the fog lay low to the road and created difficult driving for our family as we headed to church.  Luckily, I was simply a passenger and did not undergo the stress of trying to see where the lines separated the lanes.  Headlights did not even break through the fog to guide our way.  My husband just drove careful without any real understanding of what could come next or what moves might be needed to keep safe.

Our thoughts may come in from time to time like a fog over the road.  Outside influences, troubling times or bondages hinder our ability to even come up with words to pray.  We lose sight of where the lines mark our path.  Straining our eyes, asking everyone we meet for advice or isolation does not break through the fog and get us out.

What clears up fog?  Sunlight!  Once the temperature reaches just right, the fog lifts.

"The LORD is God,
and he has made his light shine on us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will praise you;
you are my God, and I will exalt you." (Psalm 118:27-28)

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God." (Romans 8:26-27)

Though fog surrounds, it does not need to consume our every being.  Reach up to God.  In those times, we know not what to even pray for or about because we cannot see clearly.  Guess what?  The Holy Spirit intercedes for us and asks God to help in weakness.  God shines upon situations to open eyes, wipe tears and burns off those thoughts by feeding our spirit with His Truth.

I have experienced many moments when the words just could not come out for prayer.  I felt so deep in a pit, I just could not muster up the words to get out.  I remained confused, with no sight of where my feet should move.  I sat quietly and simply lifted the words, "God, I need You!"  The Holy Spirit ran to the rescue and turned those words into exactly what prayer lay deep in my heart; a prayer I did not know existed.  Only God knew my heart.  Only God knew what plans lay ahead of all this chaos.  He leads to the path with your name on it.  Only His light can break the fog and place you in safety!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for lighting the way.  I know as I walk, holding tightly to Your hand, I am led to safety.  Sometimes words cannot be said, but You know the plans for my life and I trust Your guidance.  May I always sit quietly with You to receive teaching, comfort and guidance.  Thank You for loving me so much to pave a life of peace by sacrificing Your only Son to die for little ole me.  I love You!

Which Ride is Right for You?

A local amusement park just finished the best roller coaster around.  The hype from commercials increased the excitement to experience this roller coaster.  You purchased tickets online, took a vacation day at work and prepared the family to go enjoy the day at an amusement park.

As the vehicle approaches the park all eyes glue to the huge coaster seen from the parking lot.  Excitement bubbles inside and you almost jump out of the vehicle running to the gates.  Of course, the moment your foot steps through the gate, you walk directly to the line and wait patiently for your turn.  As the previous passengers exit, your time comes.  You imagine the wind blowing in your face, the fun curves, the downhill then uphill travel and now completely fill with enthusiasm.  This will be the best adventure ever.

The cars fill up quickly, but one remains.  The rest of the family would need to catch the next ride or you wait with them and allow another person to ride.  No way, you cannot wait one more minute.  So, you situate yourself in the seat and wave goodbye to them.  The ride starts rather slow; a few turns and a small hill.  Then, the cars accelerate and the hills become bigger, the twists and turns more frequent.  Soon, you feel out of control and unprepared for all the dangers of the ride.  The whole idea was a mistake and now you do not even have your family with you to help in this chaos.  Your excitement quickly turns to fear and joy to misery.

Do you ever feel like life turned into a roller coaster?

At first, decisions appear just right, excitement builds upon beginning a new adventure and all seems well; but, suddenly it changes.  Twists and turns appear that were not accounted for when mapping out this plan.  The acceleration through the adventure exceeds anything you ever imagined.  Worse, loved ones did not sign up for the same experience.  All sight of them is lost and you feel stuck on this ride in life with no end in sight.  How can you scream loud enough for anyone who cares to hear?

"In my distress I called to the LORD;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears." (Psalm 18:6)

"I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonders of your great love,
you who save by your right hand
those who take refuge in you from their foes." (Psalm 17:6-7)

He will hear.  Sometimes we choose the wrong path, though it seemed so right for our life.  God will carry you from the chaos, mess and danger; then, lead you to the path He planned.  Cry to Him, calmly listen and believe He will answer.  Your prayers do not go unheard when lifted up to Him with a genuine heart.  He knows our hearts and desires.  He sees our faith and will save you from distress.

Roller coasters are not for everyone.  Amusement parks develop all kinds of rides to meet every visitors needs.  A list of warnings appears before boarding the rides.  Pay attention to those warnings.  Listen to your heart and pray for clarity on which ride to board in life.  God sends clear signs of which direction and path to take; you must be still and pay attention.  Walk in obedience so to prevent risk of dangerous twists and turns in life.  Be prepared for every situation by approaching hand in hand with God.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for clearing showing me where to turn in life.  Though it may be difficult to exit the previous roller coaster, I know another ride better suits Your desires for my life.  I failed to see the warning signs and for that, I am sorry.  I never liked roller coasters, yet thought this one was different.  Thank You for saving me so I did not continue.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Stay on His Team

I attended my husband's football game on Friday night.  He officiates Friday night football at various high schools.  The kids and I tagged along this time around.  The weather became colder as the sun sunk into the sky.  The kids and I did not really prepare for such a cool evening.  I did not feel so well and the cool weather depressed my immune system even more.  The kids began climbing the bleachers, running the ramp and paying no attention to the game.  To say the least, my attitude slowly moved from supportive of my husband's passion to regrets of agreeing to tag along.

As the game progressed, I began feeling worse and my voice faded.  Each quarter is timed twelve minutes, so I gave myself a pep talk to make it through the next 48 minutes.  As I watched the clock stop numerous times, my pep talk faded into the far back of my mind.  Twelve minutes turned into thirty minutes and this mamma's patience was wearing thin.  With each whistle I lost hope of ever getting out of this place.  I felt myself become more ill and saw no way out.  My attitude and outlook became very grim.

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.  May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 15:4-6)

"to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:23-24)

Your life will inevitably bring trials.  Until the day we meet Christ, times will go against our plans.  Outside influences, change in environments and decisions out of our control appear daily.  These present high risks of depressing our attitude and thoughts.  We may enter a situation with a positive outlook and motivated to come through smoothly; but things happen, Satan pulls out sneaky schemes and lies to us.  Satan lengthens our pain and sadness with each lie believed.

Just as my attitude shifted to negative and regret, Satan's lies grab a hold of us slowly and cause us to slip away from God.  We must continue to focus on God and make it a point to change every lie to Truth from God's Word.  His Truth encourages, teaches and helps with endurance through every trial.  Though Satan may blow the whistle and try to stop our progress through the trial, God can come to rescue and move you right along to come to the end.

Focus on God's pep talk found in Scripture.  Avoid lies, negative thoughts and conforming to outside influences to drag out your trials.  Keep the times running by praying, rejoicing for all lessons learned and staying protected by the Truth.  Don't give Satan a foothold by failing to prepare.  Grab all your tools; the Bible, prayer life and armor needed to face daily spiritual battles.  Stay on His team and you will always come through in victory.

God, thank you for another day.  I am sorry I lost focus the other night and honed in on all the negative pieces of my evening.  Not only did my joy vanish, my emotions also became out of control and brought others around me down.  I am reminded to focus on You through everything; no situation is too small to keep Your Truth on my mind.  Continue to teach me and remind me of this important factor of life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

You Can Be His Disciple

Each day let us all walk in love:

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." (Romans 12:9-11)

" Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit."
(1 John 4:11-13)

With every person we meet, let us be His hands and feet:

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another." (Romans 15:13-14)

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2)

Go each day where He leads and teach the Truth:

"Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20)

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

In every situation, feel the comfort and joy from our Creator.  He created us to obey His commands and spread His Truth.  Who do you know that needs to hear His message today?

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for feeding Truth to my life.  Continue to lead me in the way You plan for my life.  Use me in any way to spread Your Word.  May I continually be an arrow pointing others to Your Truth.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Avoid Anticipation

Anticipation can be a great feeling when a pleasurable event waits in your future.  Your emotions excite when planning, visualizing the event and counting down the days until it arrives.

My son looks forward to the weekend every Monday.  He wakes up and tries to focus on the weekend to come and all of our plans.  His thoughts become happier as each day passes.  He anticipates fun times ahead

Unfortunately, anticipation can also be an awful feeling as well.  You dread an upcoming event and just know it will turn out sour.  You would just rather pass up the whole thing and move on.

On the other hand, my son drags his feet in the morning and hates to think of the school day ahead.  His favorite times at school include recess, gym and lunch.  Every other class and time, he could do without.  His outlook is grim and he anticipates the whole time to be dull, boring and miserable.  His thoughts lead him to unnecessary anxiety and sadness.

There is a constant battle for our thoughts every day.  Satan would love for us to anticipate the worst scenarios instead of focusing on the blessings in life and the good times that await.

"But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD,
   I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me." (Micah 7:7)

"Why, my soul, are you downcast?
   Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God." (Psalm 42:5)

"Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him." (Psalm 62:5)

Ultimately, every day turns out as He plans.  Our ideas, thoughts, anticipations and plans do not matter.  He knows the best result and will bring peace to every situation faced.  We need not waste our time and energy concocting ideas of the turn out.  We only bring anxiety, worry and dread upon ourselves as we anticipate difficult or unwanted events.  Or, we set ourselves up for disappointment, frustrations and sadness when an exciting event does not turn out as expected.

Give every day to Him; He has the plan in place already.  Focus on His blessings through every situation, not on how YOU think the details should pan out.  Our hope is in Him.  Wait for His guidance and keep the enemy behind you.  Joyce Meyer always says, "Where the mind goes, the man follows."  Keep your mind on Him and focus on His plan.  Throw out any negative thoughts and replace them with Truth, knowing whatever may come will be good because God is at your side.

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for planning every detail of my days.  Keep my thoughts focused on the present.  I give You my anxieties about the future.  I know You hold all kinds of great plans for me, plans I cannot even imagine.  I wait for You.  I am here to go wherever You lead.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Share the Good News!

"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." (Colossians 3:9-10)

Life prior to accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior may look pretty ugly.  It may look like an old car seen in a junk yard; beat up, broken and dead.  Or prior life may resemble a house in shambles; desolate, unstable and unfit for human living.  These items may not be restored.  A new one must be purchased.  The owner must earn money and save to be able to replace an old junker or a ruined home.

"My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
   keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it." (Proverbs 4:20-23)

"But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:22-23)

Thankfully God does not require us to attain grace.  He does not ask for us to save up good works and then turn them in for salvation.  No junk yard for damaged goods exists.  No person is left in shambles without help.

He forgives any sin and places it behind, in the past.  Though we suffered and felt hopeless; He can restore you to new life.  He does this freely.  Jesus already paid the price in full.  His promises bring nourishment to your soul and peace in your hearts.  Keep His Word near always and follow His commands for your life.  You will be restored and made new, cleansed inside and out.  Then, you may go and be disciples for Christ.  He will lead to others who need to hear about Him.

Maintain your new self, keeping the old away.  Walk in love, peace, joy and obedience to your Creator.  Keep your new self shining for all to see Christ through you.  Your new life will feel awesome because doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord always brings joy.  Comforting feelings result in knowing our Eternal home waits for us; this life is only temporary.  We must live for Him who died for us!  Be His hands and feet and share the good news!

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for bringing me from destruction and creating a new life.  I felt damaged beyond repair, destroyed, broken and in shambles.  You came and saved me.  My past sin washed clean upon acceptance that Your Son paid the price in full.  Thank You for sending Jesus to do this for all of us sinners.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Listen to His Pep Talk

My son receives 'atta boys' from school as he grows closer to the reading goal set for second graders.  He will also bring a paper home displaying his level of ability to pronounce specific words in a given time.  Usually, stats show where a child seven years old needs to be or the goal to reach by the end of second grade.

My daughter goes to the doctor for a well check-up and they weigh her and check her height.  Then, the doctor comes in and places those measurements on a graph comparing to all the other three year olds.  The chart even displays how tall and big the typical kid will grow.

If you ever go to the gym and use the modern treadmills, they mark out your workout.  Each milestone pops up and allows you to see the progress made and think about the distance or time left to go.  Workouts vary from easy to hard.  The categories help to formulate a plan base on the desired goal.  One may burn more calories, while another may just be a casual walk.

All of these examples provide a goal to reach and present progress reports along the way; all based on "typical" or "average" results.  Knowing the end result and the length of time needed can bring safe, secure feelings.  Also, it can motivate us as we draw closer to the end.  With each advance, the accomplishment can be seen clearly and we give ourselves a little pep talk, "You are almost there.  You can do this.  Keep your head up and focus on the end."

"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
(Philippians 3:13-14)

Our goals and dreams may not coincide with the plan God placed for our lives.  It may be hard at times to realize what He is saying or where He is guiding our steps.  But, be still and wait, listen and obey His commands.  He holds the plans and outlines for our future.  There are no "average" lifestyles, graphed out goals or categorized plans to choose from.  God does not work in monotony or by standards.  He specifically chose a plan for every one of His children.

Trying times may present anxiety, worry or a frustrated spirit; but, we must seek Him and captivate every thought, making it obedient to Him (see 2 Corinthians 10:5).  Do not fall in the pattern of comparison to other's progress, dwell on past mistakes or feel that giving up is an option.  Strain forward and focus on the end result, an eternal life with our Creator!

All our trials and dark times are in His hands.  He is there cheering us along and assuring us this is temporary.  Keep your head up, you are almost there.  For, He has great plans for you, to prosper not to harm and to use your story to help another in need of His Truth.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

God, thank you for this day.  Keep my eyes focused on You.  Thank you for all Your pep talks and Words of encouragement with each step I take.  Thank You for signs to remind me of my progress and to keep my head up.  I surrender it all to You.  I ask for You to take every lie from Satan and feed me Truth.  Guide me to others who need to hear about You and the comfort You provide.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

No More Hiding!

My children love to play hide and seek in the house.  One counts to ten while the other goes and hides among our clothes, in a cabinet, a closet, behind a door or under a desk.  Depending on the seeker, it could take a while for the other to be found.  Typically, my three year old repeatedly hides in the same place or screams out her location as my son seeks.  My son will find a good place and sit quietly when it is his turn to hide.  We usually help our daughter find him by pointing in his direction.  Sometimes he will make a noise to help her and give a hint to his position in the house.

The rules for hide and seek twist a bit when the Craig kids play.  My daughter will ask, once done counting, "Brayson, where are you?"  Either she really does not understand the whole hiding thing or strategize to trip him up, causing him to yell out, "I am right here!"  There are times when my son directs my daughter to a hiding place.  Since he is the seeker, this point of play goes against the rules as well.  The whole process is rather comical.

"But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.  When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him." (Deuteronomy 4:29-30)

"Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always." (1 Chronicles 16:11)

In our life, we may find a hiding place.  Whether it be isolation in our homes, an addiction or numbing out through things OF this world.  Those hiding places bring comfort and ways to avoid a tough situation.  Our reactions fall into a pattern and we repeatedly run to our hiding spot.  If we run to others first for an answer, we may follow their ways and be lead in the wrong direction.  This increases the risk for the enemy to find us and destroy.

I believe my kids way of hide and seek can serve as an example of the way we should handle situations.  Hang with me here. . .

We must seek Him first.  He is the Way, Truth and Life (see John 14:6).  Through accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior and seeking Him with all our heart, we live an abundant life.  Just as my daughter screams out her location so her brother may find her quickly; God yells out to us loudly for us to come His way if only we choose to seek Him.  Cry out His name, throw your hands up to Him and surrender all of your life to Him.  He cares so much about you and will not leave you to sit in hiding.  He will meet you and comfort you.

There will be times when your cries are heard and He quickly sends a believer to point you in His direction.  They come to guide you to His Truth and open your eyes.  Clear vision helps you walk in the right direction.  Walking with Him creates peace in life and eliminates hiding spots.  Create a strategy to keep the lies out and recognize the schemes of our enemy.  Take a stand against those lies and keep focus on God!  Doing so removes hiding as an option.

God, thank you for this day.  May I eliminate any hiding place I created when living in bondage.  Keep my eyes focused and my ears attentive to Your Truth.  Thank You for guiding my feet and loving me through every part of my journey.  Your Word brings comfort, peace and joy.  I am sorry for hiding so many years from You.  I will seek You daily with my whole heart and I believe You will provide the strength needed to complete the plans for my life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Addictions Create a Foothold for Satan

A habit arises quicker than we realize.  Some say 21 days or 28 days; while others say 66 days on average.  Which ever the case may be, we are creatures of habit.  The consistent actions keep us in the know of plans.  We map out our day and continue in the same pattern as the day before.  Our lives resemble cookie cutters; predictable and homogenous.  A comforting feeling arises when remaining the same, never changing.

Unfortunately, habits can become destructive and hinder our eyesight for His plan.  We need to become flexible and transform our thoughts and patterns to His perfect will.  Often our acquired behavior patterns become so common to us, we fail to realize their presence.  The monotony inhibits our growth.

'They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” (2 Peter 2:19)

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.' (1 Corinthians 6:12)

The more obsessions and "feel good" addictions we pick up along the way, the greater the devil's foothold.  Satan will use any worldly pattern to suck us in.  The lies spoken consume our thoughts and the habit becomes our master.  The damage to our soul when choosing the lies as our master leads only to destruction.

I am guilty 100% of falling victim to pleasing my flesh through addictive behaviors.  I love being in the know of what is to come.  Anxiety arises when I sit and wait in the unknown.  Satan entices me with ways to find peace OF this world.  His lies lead my flesh to desire a drink, a cigarette, deprivation of food, routine in my eating patterns or over exercise to numb out of any anxiety.  These addictions only begin the process of bondage.  If not caught quickly, I could easily fall back into the enemy's hands.  I must take a stand and turn it all over to Him.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:1-2)

He has your best interest at heart.  Replace every flesh driven habit with prayer.  Change every lie from the enemy to Truth from our Creator.  Rely on Him for your plans.  Throw routine out of your life and continue to GO in the direction of Him.  No day will be the same.  He continually commands good works every place your feet travel.  Okay, so you will constantly be unaware of the future, avoid cookie cutter days and may feel incompetent from time to time.  Guess what?  With every obedient step, He blesses.  He provides the strength and confidence to defeat the enemy and do what is right in His eyes.  Become a servant to our Creator and live life to the fullest!  Create a habit of turning it all over to Him!

God, thank you for this day.  This day is in Your hands.  Guide my every move so to grow even closer in relationship to You.  Rid me of my ugly habits which create bondage over my life.  Keep my eyes focused on You so I may not be mastered by anything of this world.  May my flesh never feel comforted by my past addictions and the lies Satan tries to feed me.  Thank You for breaking the bondage he placed around me.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Protection Required

Certain places require specific attire.  You would not arrive at prom in your pajamas, a restaurant without a shirt (especially if you were a woman), visit a pool in your winter coat or enter your workplace in underpants.  Some situations demand equipment to survive.  I do not picture anyone going to school without a pencil and notebook, playing football without a helmet and padding or entering war without weapons.  I pray for all to wear seat belts when in a vehicle, a helmet while riding a motorcycle or bicycle and steel-toed boots at a construction site.

This equipment and attire provide safety, protection, organization, preparedness and the ability to face the current situation with confidence.

The above requirements may be so obvious, but yet some people miss out on the most obvious equipment, attire and safety items needed.  In life, each day is a spiritual battle for your thoughts.  God asks for us to put on the armor necessary to face that battle.  Without each piece properly placed, the battle may be lost.

Put on the belt of truth - speaking honestly to one another and removing all masks or hidden struggles.  The breastplate of righteousness - keeping in sync with the moral standards God provides in His Word.  The boots of peace - walking in kindness, joy and love knowing God lives inside you.  Place on your head the helmet of salvation - believing God to be your Lord and Savior and allowing Him to set you free.  Take in one hand the shield of faith - guarding your heart against the fiery darts of our enemy.  And in the other hand hold tightly the sword of the spirit - God's Word will defy all lies the enemy throws our way.  His Truth overpowers and dominates the battle within our mind.

The devil is sneaky and does not care about anyone's well-being.  If we fail to place on the armor each and every morning, the enemy will find a foothold and destroy our thoughts.  The above armor places us on the winning side in battle.  We become one of His army men/women.  God's army never loses.  With His Truth, we remain prepared for any scheme of the enemy; we are safe in His arms; and we receive all the benefits of being victorious through Him!

Do you want to be on the winning team?  Seek God, get to know Him and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.  He will protect, prepare and fight the battles for you.

Reference (Ephesians 6:10-17)

'Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”  With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”  Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.' (Acts 2:38-41) Emphasis mine

God, thank you for this day.  Thank You for providing the protection I need daily to win this spiritual battle.  I signed up on Your roster and will remain.  I am here for You and willing to go into any situation with the confidence that You have my back.  Thanks for being my friend, Savior, Father, healer, counselor and leader in life.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.

Our Pressure Relief Valve

When a child leaves for school, pressure immediately begins.  The pressure to behave all day long.  The burden of receiving acceptable grades on schoolwork hovers over their heads.  The worry of where to sit for lunch, who to play with at recess or what child may reject their friendship.  One other pressure may occur; the need to 'fit in'.  How do you 'fit in'?  Well, I guess if your clothes are 'cool' enough, your hair styled just right or maybe even your body the correct size.

Really?  Who creates these standards of acceptance anyway?  No wonder our children come home and act out of sorts.  The difficulties they face in society builds up so much emotion that they become like a pressure cooker ready to blow.  They arrive home and 'let their hair down'.  The strict rules, societal pressures and fears of rejection have been too much.  I feel so sorry for these children, but also must be the authoritarian and teach them to not act out as such because of a tough day.  Acting out, taking the stress out on loved ones will not help anything.  We must calm ourselves and discuss hardships with God and one another.

"who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:5-7)

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

Children may not understand that you do not bring your frustrations home only to be thrown at loved ones.  But, as an adult we understand this concept clearly.  So, why do we still take part in such nonsense?  We must set examples for our children to see calm discussions of a hard day, prayers said to ease our pain or anxiety and a house full of love.  Love comforts and never is rude.

Adults experience some of the same pressures during the day as children.  Trials and tribulations will come as long as breath enters your body.  The world is full of sin, full of flesh driven individuals and Satan prowls around ready to devour.  How can we keep strong and faithful when surrounded with so many pressures and burdens?

I have found keeping God at my side every day, every hour, every minute and every second brings peace to any situation.  From the moment your eyes open until they close again for the evening; keep an open ended conversation flowing with your Creator.  Our Heavenly Father loves to hear your concerns and struggles so He may provide comfort.  He becomes our pressure relief valve, releasing the pressures one by one, to prevent a blow!  Turn each pressure, sadness, anxious moment or worry over to Him.  He never leaves your side.  Our faith grows as the situation placed in His hands brings refinement to our soul.  We must rely on His wisdom and strength.

As you arrive home, your attitude and demeanor differs from before.  You enter the front door with a sense of calm relief to be in the presence of loved ones.  God provides us with families so He may extend comfort through someone with skin on.  Take advantage of this comfort.  Humble yourself with one another and 'let your hair down' in a constructive manner.  Working through struggling times with your loved ones creates a stronger bond and unity as God intended.

God, thank you for another day.  I know my day will bring trials, pressures and tribulation, but I walk in peace knowing You are at my side.  You have gone before me to protect the way.  I ask You to send the Holy Spirit to create joy in tough times, to bring laughter to my day.  I love You.
