Attitude to Gratitude

Our church began Vacation Bible School last night.  Our theme this year relates to city life.  The 'word on the street' last night was GRATITUDE.

Definition of gratitude: a feeling of thankfulness or appreciation, as for gifts or favours!

So, upon leaving work last night I definitely needed to hear the message taught at VBS.  I rushed out of work with a negative attitude.  My mind stormed with anxiety and anger.  Why do I allow Satan to steal my joy through such a minor piece in my life, my job?  Why do I lose sight of the bigger picture and focus on this minuscule moment in time?  Why bring others down with me by carrying this despicable attitude around?

I need one big attitude adjustment.  The words to our song last night proclaimed, "I'll adjust my attitude to gratitude and thank God for everything."  Focus on Him, keep Eternal life in mind and remain joyous through every little bump.  Every bump hit on our path leading to Him is nothing compared to the joy He holds for our Eternal life. 

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." (Philippians 4:7-9) 

Display gratitude for the gift given to us through Jesus.  He died for us so we may live an abundant life.  Our every breath occurs because of Him.  Show appreciation by spreading His Truth and loving all you meet.  Focus on above, not this short life here.  We are but a mist which appears for a short bit and then vanishes (see James 4:13-15). 

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving
   and his courts with praise;
   give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
   his faithfulness continues through all generations."
(Psalm 100:3-5)

Let us spend our days in praise to our Creator.  He loves us always.  Give thanks to Him for every moment and every breath.  God's mercies are new every morning; let us take this day as new and fill it with gratitude for Him.

God, thank You for this day.  Thanks for each message You send at just the right time.  I know only You have the power to change my attitude.  I promise to do my part, to change the things I can.  I will study Your Word every day.  Speak to me through Your Words so I may stay on the straight path leading to You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
