Time passed. Cain
brought an offering to God from the produce of his farm. Abel also
brought an offering, but from the firstborn animals of his herd, choice cuts of
meat. God liked Abel and his offering, but Cain and his offering
didn’t get his approval. Cain lost his temper and went into a sulk. Genesis 4:3-5 (The Message)
Cain decided to give God scraps or leftovers of his produce
as an offering. On the other hand, Abel
presented the best, firstborn animals of his herd. God was pleased with Abel and approved the
offering. Cain could not see why such a
liking to his brother’s offering and not his; so, he went to sulk.
Cain said to God,
“My punishment is too much. I can’t take it! You’ve thrown me off the land and
I can never again face you. I’m a homeless wanderer on Earth and whoever finds
me will kill me.” Genesis 4:13-14 (The
Message)
Cain took it upon himself to kill the competition, his
brother. He wanted God to look at him
with approval. But, God saw and knew
exactly what occurred. Therefore,
punishment reigned for Cain. Cain rather
die than receive the discipline set before him.
God told him,
“No. Anyone who kills Cain will pay for it seven times over. ”God put a
mark on Cain to protect him so that no one who met him would kill him. Genesis 4:15 (The Message)
God protected Cain through his discipline despite the
actions done beforehand. Cain went on to
have a child and increase in descent. I
believe Cain learned through the years that God desires our firsts. He desires the best returned to Him as an
offering. After all, without Him none of
this would be possible.
God also gave us His best through His Son Jesus Christ. He gave so we could have! The sacrifice cannot be repaid in full, but
can be appreciated and respected. Respect
God through daily actions. Appreciate
God through daily sacrifice.
Act according to His Will.
Love others while shining His light onto all you encounter. Line the meditations of your heart up with His
Word. Speak in praise to our
Creator.
Sacrifice your firsts as Abel did in the beginning. Give the first hours of your day to God. Read, meditate and then go live out His Word. Offer the best of yourself to others in
need.
Let us begin today with the attitude of Abel – giving first
to God for He gave and loved us first!
God set it inside us to do well and please Him. We must simply say yes and then receive His
blessings. Should we say no or deny the
attitude of serving, sin will be crouching at our door waiting to take over. .
.
What shall you choose this day?
Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
