Engage in a Relationship

Maturity includes learning self-discipline.  Children look to their parents for discipline, learning right from wrong.  Parents play a dire role in teaching children.  Children learn by example more than words.  They watch you make decisions and follow in your footsteps.

The time comes when parents no longer hold the child's hand and decision require immediate attention.  We pray that the foundation laid and the example set will help the child make the right choice.  Seasons of life bring various trials and change constantly, but our example and morals should remain constant.  How can we stay strong, constant and teach by example?  We must learn from our Father and practice discipline in our own lives.

I will explain some disciplines.  To learn more, pick up His Book today and begin reading.  In there, we learn from His example, His constant character and gain strength to make the right decisions.  I want to look at the disciplines of engagement today.

These include study, worship, celebration, service, prayer, submission, fellowship, confession.  Studying these in depth and putting them into practice in our lives will enable us to build the right kind of attitude and habit to set the example God intended.  I will not go into each of them, but do want to touch on a few.

Prayer: We must talk to God first to receive guidance.  He desires a conversation every moment of our day.  There is no particular position, place, time or words required for prayer.  Talk with Him just as you would to others.  Express your innermost feelings and concerns.  He cares so much for you and wants to help.  He just needs to hear from you.  Devote your day to prayer.  At work, stop for a second and ask for strength to make it through the day.  At home, lift up your voice to Him for direction in parenting or healing in marriage.  At all times, reach to Him.  Let Him lead.

Pull Him closer in prayer:
"What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him?" (Deuteronomy 4:7)

Study: Take the time to learn His Truth.  We cannot understand anything without deep study.  In order to learn rules, one must study the handbook; to gain knowledge, one must take time to learn the material; to find truth, one must go to the source.  We have been given a Handbook full of material from the one True Source.  It is in those pages that instruction, wisdom and valid teaching.  Read the Scriptures and apply them to your life.  Let Him teach.

Pull Him closer in study:
"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." (Romans 15:4)

Confession: Rid yourselves of sin.  Confess to Him the past and move into the future with Him in the center.  There is nothing you have done that He will refuse to forgive.  Come to Him, lay it all at the cross and repent of your sins.  Strive each day to walk according to His Will.  If you fall, which we all fall short of His glory daily, run to Him.  He will pick you up, dust you off and show you the way to move.  Believe in Him and trust His Ways.  Forgive others just as He forgave you.  Set the example for others to see Him shine through you.  Let Him forgive.

Pull Him closer in confession:
"Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

Engage in a relationship with God.  In doing so, your life overflows with blessings, you fulfill His plan and become a servant of God.  The example set for all to see will bring many to know God.  Be that vessel.  Bring discipline in your life so to remain constant in every situation that comes your way.

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for the discipline I can rely on in You.  I know You are constant and set the example for me to follow.  I can turn to You always.  In every situation, You remain and provide strength.  As I pray, You listen and respond.  As I study, You teach and lead.  As I confess, You accept me and forgive.  Thank You.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
