Watch for Slippage

Landslides occur all over the world.  You would think that the thick, hard earth would survive any amount of pressure or years of usage.  Well, a Tennessee road recently failed to uphold and the ground underneath gave out.  The constant pressure from traffic weakened the underground, shifting the stability of the slope.  The unstable ground began to slide, the earth loosened, rocks slipped and the solid road followed.

Years ago, when constructing the road atop a slope, the ground appeared stable and reliable.  Millions of travelers used this means for getting through Tennessee.  No thought alluded to the fact of possible wreckage or damage to the road.  The road was simply a convenient path to get from here to there.  The bottom reason for the slip was the land just became weak.  Roadways require strong, sturdy, solid ground to survive the weight and busyness of traffic.  The land must be right.

Due to the slip, our travels to Gatlinburg changed a bit.  Detours were made available by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and lanes were shifted to accommodate traffic through the actual site of slippage.  As we approach the scene, our lane shifted into the northbound traffic and we shared their side.  The lanes were tight and anxiety increased in my driver due to the changing roadway.  We made it through and began to drive on solid ground again.  Anxiety decreased and the trip went on down a path leading to our destination!

Ever feel like your life may be slipping out from underneath you?  The ground you built on seemed solid, sturdy and strong; but then the weight of trials and the busyness of life wore you down, causing slippage.  Overtime, you find yourself falling and crumbling.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

The road traveled seemed convenient, appropriate at the time and no thought of wreckage or damage came to mind.  The path I took through my years of trials seemed right.  Each time I engaged in eating disorder habits, took a drink to numb out and fell into patterns of wrong choices; my path slipped out from under me.  One day, I crumbled.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.  But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:25-27)

Thankfully, our God is bigger than any slip in our lives.  He will pick us up, dust us off and make a detour available to move past the wreckage and damage in our life.  The shift may bring some anxiety, for the enemy continues to try and pull us back to the wide, weak, slipping path.  Stay sturdy, relying on His Truths to see you through.  Build your path Scripture by Scripture to make it strong and sturdy.  He will lead you on the path to your destination - Eternity in Heaven with Him!

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for being my solid ground on which to stand.  Lead me on the narrow path; guide my steps to follow Your way.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
