One Day at a Time

As a child, you open up a big box of puzzle pieces ready to conquer the challenge.  You see the end picture on the box and think, "Piece of cake.  I can do this!"  Then, as the pieces fall on the table, your confidence dwindles.  You feel the pieces may never come together to create the beautiful image seen on the box front.

In college, on the first day of the semester, students receive a syllabus.  The syllabus breaks down each individual class session and all the material that will be covered.  Each test, homework assignment, report and presentation appears on one nicely printed 8x11 sheet.  Prior to your eyes meeting the page, you felt great about beginning a new adventure, living the college life and increasing knowledge of a specified skill.  As each objective on the syllabus jumps off the page at you, the word defeat enters your thoughts.  You cannot wrap your mind around how in the world to complete all this work.  Too much work, too little time!

In customer service, seeing a line clear out the door brings anxiety to an employee's mind.  The overwhelming thought of all those waiting for you to meet their need consume you.  Glancing up from time to time at the line, you may see a few fidget, some roll their eyes and others vocalize complaints about service.  One person cannot take care of twenty in a timely fashion (set by the customer).  You feel ready to put up a closed sign and walk out the door.

Whatever challenge lay before you: a puzzle, college course, customers or bills; God will help.  He will never take you anywhere or allow a time in your life that you cannot handle with Him by your side.  He will provide enough grace, love, support, strength and comfort for each 24 hour period in life.  Trust in Him, lean not on your understanding and acknowledge Him.  He will make the path before you straight!

A puzzle must be put together one piece at a time.  You cannot throw them all in a pile and expect good results.  You must pick out just the right one at just the right time and place it in just the right spot.  It begins to come together and develop the desired image.

College courses must be completed one session at a time.  You cannot finish the final exam without attending each class leading to that day.  Each session adds to weeks of completed work.  Toward the end of the semester, you look back and realize how much you did by taking one project at a time.

One person can only serve one person at a time.  If an employee tried to help two or three customers at a time, mistakes happen, poor service occurs and the customer remains dissatisfied.  Focusing on one customer allows for successful, genuine service.  Then, you move on to the next customer.

In your journey here, focus on the task at hand.  Give God each day and use the tools provided to complete what is needed at that time.  God provides strength for each day.  In the desert, He gave the Israelites enough manna for one day.  He did not want them hoarding for the next day.  He desired their trust that tomorrow, He will supply manna again for their nourishment.  Well, my dear friends, He does the same for us each day.  He extends His hand to us.  Grab a hold and let Him walk you through each task for that day.

Do not look at the big picture.  Know in your heart that He offers all that is necessary to reach completion.  He does not lead to failure, dissatisfaction or defeat.  His Way always works.  Take one Scripture at a time, apply it at just the right time and develop the beautiful image He intends for your day.  Take one trial, one task at a time.  You cannot leap to the end of the journey; but, take one step at a time and walk the path leading to Him.  You will be amazed the places He leads, the trials you go through and the strength received by focusing on one day at a time.  Use His promises to lean on in the toughest of moments.  He will see you through and bring you to completion.  Serve only One person each day.  He provides the words and actions needed to further His Kingdom.  Focus on Him.  At the end of the day, success and satisfaction come!

Seek Him for confidence and no matter what pieces fall on the table, list of projects face the day or people need you; He will provide guidance, tools and words needed.  Believe in Him and trust His Word.

"because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:5-6)

God, thank you for another day.  Thank You for providing the tools I need to complete daily tasks, serve You and fulfill Your plan for my life.  Keep my eyes focused on each step needed at the specified time, not the long road that lay ahead.  Walk with me each step and guide my feet.  I love You.

Keep praying harder than the devil can work.
